Demetyhrll Nikita Artaxerxes (M.I.A.)
Born before the Calamity, Reveryll was the youngest child in a family of protectors and mercenaries in the Gridanian wilderness. His father, though a master marksman with unparalleled skill in archery, was also a tender romantic, often serenading his wife with a handmade lyre while foraging in the forests. His mother, renowned as the "Snow White Berserker," was a beautiful yet ferocious axe wielder, famous for her strength and ability to communicate with monsters. Though they lived a humble life, the family was tightly knit, and Reveryll, or “Revy” as he was lovingly called, was coddled by both parents and his elder brother, Demetyhrll ("Demy").
Reveryll's early years were filled with warmth. As the baby of the family, he was whiny and needy, often clinging to his brother or parents. Despite his mother’s attempts at discipline, Demi spoiled his younger sibling, shielding him from the consequences of his mischief. This made Reveryll deeply attached to his brother, creating a bond that was unbreakable in his young mind.
However, this happiness was shattered when war engulfed the land. The Garlean Empire’s aggression left no place safe, and the Artaxerxes parents were swept up in the conflict, forced to fight and protect their children from harm. Despite their bravery, both parents were killed in the chaos of battle, leaving Reveryll and Demi orphaned.
At the tender age of four, Reveryll and his nine-year-old brother were captured by Ul'dahn syndicates during the war’s upheaval. The syndicate, intent on enslaving Elezens for sport and power, forced the brothers into a life of servitude. Living as slaves in the harsh desert of Ul’dah, Demi fought fiercely to protect Reveryll, fending off both cruel syndicate members and rival paupers who sought to harm them. But the environment was too much for the younger boy to bear.
Weakened by disease and trauma, Reveryll’s small body succumbed to illness. One day, the syndicate, deeming him too frail to be of use, discarded him in a ditch, believing him already dead. As Reveryll lay on the brink of death, tears mixing with blood on his cheek, he cursed his fate with what little strength he had left. His life would have ended there had it not been for the intervention of a group of thaumaturges.
On an expedition through Thanalan, thaumaturges from the guild found Reveryll’s barely breathing body surrounded by wild antlings, waiting for him to expire. Sensing the dark aether coursing through him, they decided to save the boy. Reveryll was taken in by the Thaumaturges' Guild, a decision that would alter the course of his life.
Though rescued, Reveryll’s life hardly improved. He was placed in the care of an elderly Lalafellin caretaker, who treated him more as a "project" funded by the thaumaturges than as a child in need of love. The caretaker often spoke cryptically, urging Reveryll to climb the societal ladder and reminding him of the debt
he owed for being saved.
At age seven, Reveryll was sent to Ishgard to further his studies, but his Duskwight heritage and lack of noble blood made him a target for bullying and discrimination. Ishgard’s rigid class system oppressed him, and his experiences there turned him bitter and vengeful. He withdrew into himself, observing the corruption around him, and vowed that one day he would make those who tormented him pay.
His only solace during these dark years was his friendship with Haurchefant, the bastard son of the Fortemps family. Haurchefant’s warm-hearted nature and carefree smiles reminded Reveryll of Demy, and he grew to appreciate the rare kindness. However, as Reveryll became more involved in Ishgard’s seedy underbelly, manipulating those around him to gain power, he pushed Haurchefant away.
Reveryll began blackmailing the nobles and clergymen, gathering secrets that would give him leverage. His rise to power came at a great personal cost—he was often forced into the company of high-ranking clergy for their twisted pleasures, and noblewomen used him as a pawn in their decadent games. But Reveryll endured it all, smiling as he suffered, knowing that each indignity brought him closer to his goals.
Over the years, Reveryll clawed his way up the social ladder, eventually amassing enough wealth and influence to buy his own home in Ishgard. He returned to Ul’dah, intending to repay the elderly Lalafell who had once taken him in, only to discover that the man had passed away. Reveryll felt nothing for the caretaker’s death, his heart long since hardened by the trials he had faced.
Eventually, he joined the thaumaturges’ guild himself, taking up the path of black magic. His proficiency with dark magic was praised by the guild, who saw him as a prodigy untainted by the forces he wielded, however dark it may be. "Touched by darkness," they said. Reveryll knew the truth—one cannot be consumed by the dark if they are already a part of it.
On a mission escorting the Sultana, Reveryll experienced a sudden and violent awakening to the Echo. Overwhelmed by the flood of memories and visions, he passed out, his mind assaulted by the voice of a mysterious woman. The Scions of the Seventh Dawn identified him as a Warrior of Light, but Reveryll was indifferent to the title. Still, he saw an opportunity to further his ambitions, using his newfound connections to navigate the intricate political web of Eorzea..
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Reveryll takes after his father in appearance, with striking silvery-white hair and icy blue eyes—rare traits for a Duskwight. His brother, Demetyhrll, inherited their mother’s darker features: black hair and ombre-shaded eyes.
Despite his dark and twisted nature, Reveryll has a soft spot for animals. The innocence of creatures reminds him of the life he lost in the forests of Gridania.
He has a deep love for good food, especially hearty stews. No matter how cynical he becomes, a warm meal never fails to soften him.
His gentle, smiling features are disarming, and people often underestimate him, allowing him to exploit their trust. He uses this façade of kindness to manipulate those around him, hiding his true intentions behind a calm exterior.
As part of his philanthropy, he funded a University located at The Mist, for students to get education and company from a group of gentlemen that hosts various subjects of research.
