Hello!! This is Retam Paul, PhD (PMRF) from IIT Kanpur, India

"Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do" - Steve Jobs

About me

I am from the industrial town of Durgapur, West Bengal. I completed my 12th standard (AISSCE) from D.A.V. Model School, Durgapur (W.B). I did my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Durgapur and currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2018 onwards).

I enjoy problem solving, believe in second chances and the fact that eventually, everything will fall in its proper place. Am also an adept fiction lover / reader and a computer tech geek.

Ph.D. Thesis Topic

"Fracture Surface Topology via Phase Field Modeling (PFM)

with Prof. (Dr.) P. Venkitanarayanan and Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Basu, IIT Kanpur

Overview of my work

Most experimental brittle fracture surfaces report persistent fracture profiles with high roughness/scaling exponents, whereas brittle linear elastic fracture surfaces report low roughness/scaling exponents. This scaling exponent is deemed universal. My work revolves around verification of this universality through computation, analytics and experimentation.

Research Interests

Computational Fracture mechanics, computational Solid mechanics, finite element method, phase field modeling, fracture surface topology, machine design
