Respirometry Multi-User Facility
Our facility provides training and equipment to measure metabolic traits across two biological levels. High-resolution fluorespirometry allows the user to measure cell or tissue-specific oxygen consumption with simultaneous measurements of various parameters of mitochondrial function. To measure live insects you can use our Sable Systems MAVEn platform where you can get both CO2 and activity measurements for 16 independent chambers.
INSTRUMENTS
Oroboros O2k
Oroboros O2k
Our facility has two Oroboros O2k fluorespirometers.
These can measure O2 consumption at high resolution combined with simultaneous measurements of:
Mitochondrial membrane potential (TMRM, etc)
ATP synthesis (magnesium green)
H2O2 flux (Amplex ultrared)
Ca2+ concentration (calcium green)
Measurement of pH, proton flux and acidification rate with the pH ISE-Module
Measurement of membrane potential with TPP+ and of Ca2+ with the TPP ISE-Module
Small Chamber volume (0.5 mL) – high-resolution respirometry with reduced amounts of biological sample with the sV-Module"

We have 2 MAVEn system, capable of measuring metabolic rate across 16 chambers.
We can cater for small insects (Drosophila) or larger insects (butterflies & beetles)

We recently received this piece of equipment that can measure VO2 from small terrestrial and aquatic organisms in a high-throughput manner
