Capacity & Controls
This is a relatively new way for MCFRS to talk about risk management. What it means fundamentally is that we believe that safety is not the absence of incidents but rather the presence of capacity and controls. This thought process borrows heavily from safety industry leaders such as Sidney Dekker, Todd Conklin, James Reason and many others.
In revising the respiratory protection course work we tried to tie in the notions of capacity and controls with the existing work. This meets the Human Resources emphasis on ensuring Cross-Domain Integration e.g., making sure that concepts and ideas about how we get work done as integrated into how we conceptualize the work instead of being treated as stand-alone concepts.
