We are bringing youth who are working toward a better future across so-called Canada together to build visions of good Anthropocenes. We are particularly interested in bringing together a diversity of voices and projects.
This project is seeking to develop realistic and optimistic visions of what the world can be, inspired by an international project called Seeds of a Good Anthropocene. "Seeds” are initiatives that aim to create a more positive Anthropocene.
Humans (some much more than others) are a dominant force shaping this planet, so much so that our actions will be marked in geological records in a way that no single species has been to date. The term Anthropocene was originally coined to describe this geological era, but it is now used in a variety of ways to describe the future(s) humans are creating on Earth.
To us, Good Anthropocenes are ones that are just, flourishing and sustainable. They look radically different from today.
We've met so many amazing early career sustainability leaders since 2022 and we're incredibly grateful for all the work going on to build better futures
In August, 2024 we hosted a workshop with 18 young people to co-develop stories about the future together based on the widespread uptake of and combination of seeds
Stay tuned as we start to share the stories from this project with the world through this website, podcasts. A sneak peak of our zine is below.
On the last day of our workshop together we each contributed a page to this collective zine to represent our time together. The prompts for this project were:
I want a future that is ______
Thinking about possible futures made me feel _____
I am grateful for ______
We welcome your reflections! If you would like to submit responses to these prompts after looking at our zine please do so here
