Ahead of the release of Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom has revealed the "Chainsaw Demo", available on March 9th for Playstation, Xbox, and PC. This demo features the opening of Resident Evil 4 Remake, from Leon's arrival in a remote European settlement to a climactic attack in the Village Square.

This demo begins with a quick recap of the events of Resident Evil 2, which led to Leon being enlisted into a secret goverment program and undergoing rigrous training before his special duty to guard the President's daughter, who has now gone missing.

Just played the demo on livestream and I cannot get over the textures. Maybe because it's just a demo/crunch time, but if on release the game looks like the OG Xbox version at 1440p max settings +/- RTX as it does now (though it plays very well on my system, listed below) it's gonna be a hard sell for me. I am in no way a visuals junky, but I've played RE4 already and they're gonna have to really shake things up positively in the story to have me overlook these graphics in 2023.

And these screenshots show? To me they look good. You didn't answer what "shake things up" you were expecting [edit] missed the bit about shake up being related to the story, but I also disagree there. Some things will probably change and I'm not against that, but "shake things up" level of story changes I don't think it needs[/edit]. There were definitely bits where the textures didn't look great (the ground in the scene with the axe falling at the end of the demo looked pretty bad for me when I played it), but I wasn't contesting that. I was contesting your point that it looks like the original version (or HD remake that you probably meant) with some RT added. Those screenshots of you do not look bad. For reference, this is what the original looked like compared to this year's remake:

Yeah I took it rather literally. I just feel we have a lot of (hyperbolic example) "what's up with these PS2 level graphics" nowadays. It's not the perfect engine or visuals by any means, but I think people exaggerate how bad certain games look. What game would you say demonstrates the standards we should expect for a 2023 remake?

Blowing you away visually is hard for RE I'd say, because they rely on a more subtle atmosphere and have had multiple installments at the current level of graphical fidelity now. The RE2 and 3 remakes did visually impress me, because RE basically had never looked that good, but now that we're used to it I wasn't visually impressed by Village in the same way, for example. Same with 4 now. On the purely visual aspect the demo looked pretty much the same as Village to me, but combined with the atmosphere of the updated assets, lighting and simple nostalgia it looks like a banger to me.

Asinine delivery aside, many of the assets just look gross. The game doesn't look BAD and I never claimed it did, it just doesn't have the definition of what we've been spoiled by in even games released within the past few years. Tessellation, or the lack there of, is exceptionally poor. That blanket on the bed in a screenshot above...the wood planks...get up close to that stone entryway...where is the depth or detail?! There are going to be areas of the game we will revisit and even be locked into for extended periods where during whatever task we're currently doing we will notice these things. It's like a flat PNG thrown over the object mesh, it looks unfinished and considering it's close to release that could also be a likely contributing factor. Then again, it's SO CLOSE TO RELEASE that if that IS the case they really must be banking on those nostalgia glasses. Mine, however, are not so rose colored. Maybe I can chock it down to "demo doing demo things" but I had intended to preorder and stay as away as I can with my unhealthy Youtube habits to avoid spoiling the game for me (as in "what's different", not "what is Resident Evil 4"). I may still...or I'll wait for a few reviews and benchmarks. I'm not gonna miss out, I know how the story ends we all do. I'm gonna hold on to my hopes...but after this, a little more loosely.

If the graphics aren't up to your standards then that is fine. People's opinions and standards will differ. It doesn't seem to look as good as DSR from this demo, but it's not something I would call unacceptable for 2023.

With the TMP in hand, get out there and wreck some Ganados and the chainsaw man. Although be aware that the TMP can chew through ammo, so spray and pray with caution, especially since you had to give up your pistol and knife to get it! Even though Leon keeps the TMP for subsequent Resident Evil 4 demo playthroughs, you can repeat this secret as many times as you like.

It has been 18 years since the release of Capcom's original Resident Evil 4 title for the Nintendo GameCube, and now the release of its remake is under two weeks away. As one of 2023's most anticipated games and what many fans consider to be the best game in the franchise, the Resident Evil 4 remake is sure to captivate new and returning players alike. To further ensure its success and give players a brief taste of the upcoming survival horror experience, Capcom has released the Chainsaw Demo which has undoubtedly contributed to its position in Steam's top sellers ahead of its release, and gamers are already discovering secrets within the demo.

While the demo is quite short, it provides enough content for players to experience what the final game will offer in terms of graphics and gameplay. The developers even included a secret weapon in the demo that is much more powerful than the handgun players begin with: the TMP submachine gun. Obtaining the weapon is unfortunately not as straightforward as simply finding it, as it requires the player to empty their inventory before entering a certain location. Once found, however, the TMP makes defeating the chainsaw boss at the end of the demo a walk in the park. Here is each step to finding the weapon.

Finding the TMP submachine gun primarily takes patience, as it is very easy to miss out on if you progress through areas too quickly. Fortunately, once you've obtained the weapon, it will automatically appear in your inventory during subsequent playthroughs of the demo. Using the TMP against the demo's final boss makes him remarkably easy to defeat, so finding the submachine gun is more than worth it.

In Resident Evil 4, you play as Leon S. Kennedy, the protagonist from Resident Evil 2. Now working as a US government agent, Leon is dispatched to an secluded European village after a sighting of the president's daughter, who has disappeared.

Announced during the Capcom Spotlight event, the "Chainsaw Demo" is available starting today and will allow players to play an early portion of the game where Leon enters the village. The demo will have no time limit and is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam.

While the recently released demo for the remake of Resident Evil 4 mostly serves to let players get a small taste of the full game, it also contains some deviously hidden secrets, including the demo's best weapon. Continuing a Resident Evil trend of remaking old classics in a modern style, Resident Evil 4's presents perhaps the remake series' biggest challenge yet, with the original RE4 being an almost universally beloved classic.

As the full game draws closer to release, it's become clear that Resident Evil 4 is changing the original's gameplay in significant ways, with most changes being on full display in Resident Evil 4's Chainsaw Demo. Notably, the remake makes significant changes to Leon's capabilities in combat - he can move while aiming, quickly swap weapons without visiting the inventory, and even parry enemy attacks with his knife (at the cost of limited durability). But while streamlined combat will help most players get through the demo's short duration, there's also a particularly hard-to-find secret that gives access to its most powerful weapon. 006ab0faaa
