Research

At present, most of my research work focusses on a project whose goal is to produce a comprehensive monograph, written in English, on the historical phonology of Hungarian. Currently my colleagues and I work on issues pertaining to Old and Middle Hungarian phonological changes in the broad sense. These include the emergence of labial harmony, vowel lengthenings, the replacement of non-sibilant fricatives by vocalic elements, and consonantal metathesis. We are particularly interested in whether the life cycle of these changes shows features that are in harmony or in conflict with current theories of phonologisation.

I also do some research on the phonology and morphology of Classical Latin as well as on the history of linguistics, in both fields continuing work I did earlier on a larger scale.
