Siriporn Bangngoen (Amp) set off to explore the world after completing her education, living in Thailand, Bahrain, New Zealand and Australia. Eventually returning to Thailand, Amp became the Head of Care at a large care facility in Chiang Mai. While on holiday in the United Kingdom, she met cave diver Rick Stanton. Upon returning to her home in Chiang Rai, Amp was horrified to hear that a group of boys were trapped in a cave close to her village. Amp volunteered to assist with the rescue and worked alongside Rick Stanton as a translator.

Harry has a professional and voluntary interest in search and rescue operations, establishing the first sump rescue training course in Australasia. By building relationships with emergency services locally he has been preparing for such an event. The 2018 Thailand cave rescue was an opportunity to put this training to work.

During his time in the Pacific Theater, Captain Torrel was the deployed mission commander for operations in Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea and various other locations. Carolina Waterfowl Rescue (CWR) is non profit 501 (c)3wildlife rescue organization located in Charlotte, NC. CWR is run by federally-licensed migratory bird rehabilitators specializing in waterfowl. CWR takes in over 1000 birds a year covering close to 40 different wild bird species. CWR is an all-volunteer group that donates their time, money and expertise to helping North Carolina\u2019s birds in need. They also accept domestic or exotic ducks for placement, do nuisance referrals, and offer bird, duck, and goose rescue assistance.

A variety of vehicles and vessels are used by the rescue team to enhance the method of response as well as decrease response time. The main vehicle of operation, the stranding transport truck (converted F450 box truck), is used to accommodate larger animals. Pilot coral rescue efforts began from ahead of the disease boundary in September 2018, when 102 colonies were carefully collected by Coral Rescue Team divers and partners from three reef sites and corals were maintained in tanks at Keys Marine Lab on Long Key, Florida. Unfortunately, the spread of SCTLD was faster than the ability to conduct day trips out of Key West to collect corals. Therefore, to accelerate the collection and rescue of corals, 7 multi-day coral rescue cruises into the Marquesas Keys and the Dry Tortugas were conducted by the Coral Rescue Team on a live aboard dive vessel, the M/V Makai, with the capacity to collect up to 450 corals per cruise. Corals were collected and maintained on the vessel during the cruise. Once the collections were completed, the Coral Rescue Team and vessel directly delivered the corals to intermediate holding facilities at the University of Miami and Nova Southeastern University and from there, rescue corals were then shipped to Coral Rescue Holding facilities.

All Coral Rescue holding facilities (AZA and non-AZA) are jointly managed by the FWC and AZA, and must meet and maintain the highest of standards for the holding and care of rescue corals. These standards were developed in coordination with the Coral Rescue Team, the AZA Husbandry Leadership Team, and the AZA Coral Health Management Advisory Group, and are reflected in Coral Rescue Holding Facility management documents.

Once corals are collected and in holding, the next steps for rescue corals involve redistributing them across holding and propagation facilities based on species and genetics so they can be propagated (i.e., bred).

The Coral Monitoring Dashboard provides summary information about the rescue effort including: number of corals rescued, species rescued and facility currently housed. The dashboard is updated as collections occur and corals are distributed to holding facilities.
