Our report is based on our project engagement with community that have been held on 15th January 2022. Our report's theme that we chose was waste segregation. Therefore, this e-portfolio report will be based on waste segregation. As we can see here, this is our e-poster for our project engagement with community. The objectives of this event is to educate the community of Kampung Perlis, to practice waste segregation in their daily lifestyle.
Our early observations found that the community of Kampung Perlis did not practice waste segregation in their daily lifestyle. The main issues that we found was that Kampung Perlis does not have any waste segregation bin around the area. Waste segregation bin is a crucial element of educating people to practice waste segregation. This is because the availability of waste segregation bin will encourage people to practice waste segregation in their daily life.
The project was carried out in a peaceful village named Kampung Perlis. Kampung Perlis was located in Balik Pulau. Balik Pulau means 'the back of the island' in Malay. It refers to the town's location at the western side of Penang Island, geographically separated from George Town to the northeast by the island's central hills. The distance from University of Science Malaysia, Penang to Kampung Perlis is around 20.4 km. It will take around 30 minutes to go to Kampung Perlis from USM.
In this e-portfolio report, we will discuss regarding the project engagement with the community and relate it to our courses which is Public Sector Economics (SEU335E). There are certain elements that we have related during our project engagement with the community. For instance, we managed to relate property rights, public goods, externality and public choices throughout the program. These further elements will be discussed on the next section. Feel free to check it out !
