Hello! Welcome to my page. I'm Renato La Torre, a Bioinformatician in the Laboratory of Genomics and Bioinformatics for Biodiversity at San Marcos University. I am passionate in characterizing biodiversity through space and time, and understanding the processes behind the shaping of their genomes. I have expertise in the application of novel molecular techniques such as environmental and ancient DNA. By looking into species' past, I aim to contribute to their conservation in the future. Feel free to explore my page to learn more about my work. Please, do not hesitate to reach out to me đŸ˜€

Master, Biology - Ecology, Evolution, Behavior and Biosystematics
Thesis: Population genomics and archaeogenomics of Peruvian Algarrobos (Neltuma spp.) [PDF]
Research: Characterized the populations of a tree species using freshly-collected samples, herbarium specimens, and archaeological remains. Estimated genetic distances and compared genetic diversity through space and time. Detected genomic signatures of selection.
San Marcos University, Lima, Peru. 03/2015 - 12/2019
Bachelor, Genetics and Biotechnology
Thesis: Metacommunity barcoding of Antarctic Lichens [PDF-ESP]
Research: Explored the use of nucleotide databases for lichen species identification in Antarctica and discovered novel barcodes.
