My name is Reid Burns, Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). With over 30 years of experience, I specialize in supporting students with autism and other disabilities in public schools as a classroom teacher, administrator, and now as an educational consultant. My passion lies in helping students of all ability levels achieve greater independence and success by building on their unique strengths and skills.
Through my experience working with students, families, and educators of various backgrounds in San Diego, CA, and the surrounding communities, I'm able to bring a unique sensitivity and awareness of diverse cultural backgrounds and their impact on education.
At RB Educational Advocacy LLC, we provide comprehensive educational evaluations to identify potential behaviors that may be impacting a student’s performance in school.
With consultations, I can offer professional insight and recommendations based on existing records. These can be especially valuable for parents seeking guidance from an expert outside the school system.
For students with an existing diagnosis who continue to face challenges, I offer specialized, in-depth assessments to uncover the root causes of their difficulties.
As a third-party educational consultant, I can take the data available and advocate for the student to ensure the appropriate services are being implemented in the classroom.
From coaching for teachers and administrators to data analysis for decision making and more, I also provide specialized services for schools and districts.
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) possesses the skills to administer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) while adhering to a code of ethics. They adeptly assess behavior to create personalized evidence-based interventions.
Many parents choose to work with an independent educational consultant because they are unhappy with the results of an IEP or are not getting the support they need through the school.
An educational consultant can act as a mediator, taking the data available, acting as an advocate for the student, and ensuring the right services are being implemented in the classroom without a lengthy and expensive due process.
My hope is to help districts and parents reach a compromise through alternative dispute resolution, and to help families focus on what really matters: making sure the student is getting the education and support they deserve.

After our initial consultation, I will review records to gather information about the your child's educational history and organize documentation for meetings and hearings.
Based on our findings, I can recommend which service would be most appropriate for your child and provide representation.
Some parents are worried that they may not be able to afford hiring an independent educational consultant. Pro bono services are available for qualifying families. To see if you qualify, visit the state of California's website.
Not located in San Diego? No problem! Many of my services are offered virtually, and I've frequently served families and other school districts in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and beyond.
