In order to see the vascular system of a plant, you can do a simple experiment. You will need cups, food coloring and a plant that the color will show up in. We used romaine lettuce and some wild growing daisies. Make sure the water has plenty of food coloring for the best results. After a couple of hours you can see the color spread throughout the plant, including the flowers!
Plants have a vascular system that carries water and nutrients to all parts of the plant, in turn energy created by the leaves along with water will be stored in fruits and nuts. Extra water will travel through leaves to the atmosphere, that is called transpiration. In our experiment, the dye in the water helps to see how water travels.
