Dear Runners,

Further to our announcement in March, we had been hoping to run the Regency 10K 2020 this year on the re-scheduled date of Sunday 20^th September. However, after careful consideration and review of the COVID-19 event safety guidance from Run Britain, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event. We’re sorry to disappoint you, but see it as the right decision, in light of the current restrictions and not to further risk the health and well-being of all those involved with the event.

Leamington Round Table has been organising the Regency 10K, with the help of many local, loyal and generous supporters and sponsors since 2004.

This year alone we have made donations to these organisations and charities:

Cruse Bereavement Care, Young People First, Leamington Night Shelter, LWS Night Shelter, Chapter 1 Women’s Refuge, Christine’s Crew, Helping Hands, Warwick & Leamington Spa Trussell Trust Food Bank.

All the proceeds from the event are used to support local good causes. A number of them receive recurring annual support and rely on these proceeds to keep doing the great work they do in our community. Despite all the current economic and public health issues Leamington Round Table has committed to another ‘local legacy project’. This is typically a project where we donate £10K+ over an extended period of time.

Our first was three years ago when we committed to giving Helping Hands £35K+ over three years to transform the shell of their building on Gloucester Street, Leamington Spa into ‘The Lighthouse’ – a thriving community hub which now has a retail shop at the front and a walk in café at the rear, used for local people to help local people feel better about themselves and become more active in the community and get back to work.

Our second ‘local legacy project’ we are proud to announce is to help Father Christopher and his team at All Saints Parish Church. They are in great need of:

“The highest priority so far as projects are concerned (i.e. not building repairs) is the refurbishment of the Urquhart Room which is the most-used part of the church. Once we can re-open the community café we can re-start ‘The Space Project’ which is working with disadvantaged people, as well as creating a new student workspace.” Father Christopher.

The requirements to upgrade the Urquart Room with a new heating system, a replacement boiler and installation of a fan convector will cost £4800. Leamington Round Table has pledged this amount to Father Christopher, in order to enable the church (once allowed to open) to function properly again and become another ‘beating heart’ in our community.

Runners we have been grateful for your entry fees over the years and you can see the great work that your participation does. This year, in light of the current circumstances, we would like to make a special plea to you all and ask that you consider donating your entry fee for this year to enable us to continue our support of local good causes, the homeless and those in need in our community.

Whilst we appreciate this may not be everyone’s preference and as we do not plan to automatically issue refunds, you have a choice. If you do not wish to donate your 2020 entry fee, please email us no later than 31 August 2020 to request a refund (these will be processed by the 14th September), otherwise your money will go towards donations to charities and those in need in our community.

Finally, Leamington Round Table along with all our supporters and sponsors would like to say a huge ‘thank you to you’ for entering this year’s Regency 10k 2020. Without you, it would not have been voted the ‘No.1 10K in The Midlands’ and our local community so well supported.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to run and cheer the participants around the streets of Leamington Spa in 2021. The provisional date for the Regency 10k 2021 is Sunday 11th April 2021 and, subject to COVID-19 event safety requirements, entries are currently planned to open as normal on 1 January 2021.
