๐ Getting Started
First steps, setup, and navigating the app
No, but it is an amazing deal! Regal Pantry is a one-time download with no subscription, no in-app purchases, and no ads. You pay once and everything is included: all 480 recipes, all 16 cuisines, Cook Mode, Shopping List, Pantry Tracker, and Cost Tracking.
Regal Pantry is available on:
Android โ download from the Google Play Store
iPhone / iPad โ download from Apple App Store
No. There are no accounts, no sign-up forms, and no login. You open the app and it's immediately ready to use. All your data is stored privately on your device โ we never see it.
Go to Settings after first launch and:
Set your household name and number of people
Choose your currency and measurement system (Metric or US)
Register any household food allergies under Allergen Alerts
Toggle cuisine packs on or off โ all 16 are on by default
Cost estimates are already active โ 921 US average grocery prices come pre-loaded, so you'll see cost badges on recipes from your very first visit without importing anything.
Yes. Once you have opened the app at least once, it works fully offline. All 480 recipes, your planner, shopping list, pantry, and settings are stored on your device. The only things that need internet are the flag emoji images and fonts โ these are cosmetic only, and the app functions perfectly without them.
The first time you open Regal Pantry, you'll see a short disclaimer covering a few important points: that all 480 recipes were AI-generated and should be cooked at your own judgement, that nutrition figures are estimates rather than certified values, and that allergen filters are algorithmic guides โ not guarantees.
Tap "I Accept โ Enter Regal Pantry" to proceed. You only need to accept once on each device. You can review the full terms at any time in Settings โ Legal & About.
๐ฝ๏ธ Recipes
Finding, filtering, editing, and adding recipes
Regal Pantry includes 480 recipes across 16 world cuisines: Italian, Greek, French, Spanish, Mexican, Portuguese, Philippine, Vietnamese, Mediterranean, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Indian, American, and BBQ.
All built-in recipes were generated by an AI model (Claude by Anthropic). They carry a small โฆ AI badge on the card. They have been reviewed for quality and safety, but as with all AI-generated content, we recommend using your own judgement when cooking.
To use allergen filters, you first need to register your household's allergens in Settings โ Allergen Alerts. Only registered allergens become clickable filter buttons in the Recipe Catalog.
When you activate a filter, a warning banner appears asking you to acknowledge that allergen tags are computer-generated estimates โ not verified by a food safety professional. Tap "I understand" to proceed. A compact reminder stays visible while any filter is active.
Important: Always verify every ingredient label yourself, especially for serious food allergies. AI-generated allergen tags may not account for hidden allergens, cross-contamination, or brand-specific formulations.
Yes โ in three ways:
Paste from a website: Copy all text from any recipe page, tap "Paste Recipe" in the catalog toolbar, and the app parses it automatically into the recipe editor.
Create from scratch: Open any recipe and tap Edit โ this creates a modified copy you can change however you like.
Import via CSV: Use the Import CSV button to bulk-import recipes in the standard format.
Your own recipes show a โ๏ธ Modified badge and can be edited or deleted at any time.
You can export recipes you have created, modified, or imported โ but not the 480 built-in recipes. The built-in recipes are proprietary to Regal Pantry and protected by our Terms of Service.
The Export My Recipes button shows the count of exportable recipes in brackets. If you have none, clicking it shows a brief explanation instead of downloading an empty file.
Yes โ fully. Toggle the Metric / US switch in the Recipe Detail header (or in Settings) and both the ingredient quantities and the method step text convert simultaneously.
For example, a step reading "Bake at 190ยฐC for 35 min with 400g of flour in 240ml of water" becomes "Bake at 374ยฐF for 35 min with 14.1 oz of flour in 1 cup of water" in US mode. The conversion applies in Recipe Detail, Print/PDF, Cook Mode, and all share/copy text.
Yes. Use the Sort dropdown in the Recipe Catalog and choose Lowest Cost. This ranks every recipe by estimated per-serving cost using the pre-loaded prices (or your own imported prices). It's a great way to plan budget-friendly weeks.
๐ ย Meal Planning
The Weekly Planner and organizing your meals
The Planner shows a 7-day grid with four meal slots per day: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snack. You can add recipes to any slot in two ways:
Click "+ Add to Planner" on any recipe card and choose the day and slot
Click "+ add recipe" in a specific planner slot to browse the catalog with that slot pre-selected
Each slot can hold multiple recipes โ for example a main dish and a side dish in the same Dinner slot. Cook Mode will schedule them all together.
Yes. Scroll to the bottom of the Planner to see a daily calorie bar chart and a weekly cost estimate. Both update in real time as you add and remove recipes. The cost estimate uses the pre-loaded US average prices (or your own imported prices if you've added them).
Tap the Clear All button at the top of the Planner. A confirmation dialog will appear asking "Clear all meals from your weekly planner? This cannot be undone." Tap OK to confirm, or Cancel to keep your plan.
Tip: The confirmation step was added specifically to prevent accidental frustration. You can dismiss it and go back to your plan at any time.
Yes. Recipe chips in the planner are drag-and-droppable. Grab a chip and drop it on any other day or slot. On mobile, use a long-press and drag.
๐ฅ Cook Mode
Timing, scheduling, and cooking multiple dishes
Cook Mode uses critical-path backward scheduling. It finds the longest recipe in your meal, marks it as starting first, then works backwards to calculate exactly when each shorter recipe needs to start so they all finish at the same time.
The Gantt chart shows this visually โ the longest recipe has a solid โถ First badge, and shorter recipes show a +Xm badge indicating how many minutes to wait before starting them. All bars end at the same right edge.
Yes, on supported devices. When you tap "Start Cooking", Regal Pantry requests a Screen Wake Lock to prevent your screen from dimming or locking while you're following the steps. A โ Screen on indicator appears in the top bar to confirm it's active.
If you switch to another app and come back, the wake lock is automatically re-acquired. When you exit Cook Mode, the wake lock is released and your phone returns to its normal screen timeout.
Compatibility: Screen Wake Lock is supported on Android Chrome, modern iPhones (iOS 16.4+), and desktop browsers. On older devices it silently falls back to normal behavior โ your screen may dim, but cooking still works perfectly.
Yes. Open any recipe in the Recipe Catalog and tap "Start Cooking" directly from the recipe detail. This launches Cook Mode for that single recipe without needing anything in the Planner.
To cook a full planned meal (multiple dishes timed together), go to Cook Mode from the sidebar and tap "Start Cooking" on any meal card.
Steps with a set cooking time show a countdown timer card below the step text. Tap Start to begin the countdown. While it counts down you can:
Tap Pause to hold it
Tap Resume to continue
Use Prev / Next to navigate to other steps while the timer keeps running in the background
Yes. Tap Print / PDF in the Cook Mode toolbar. An in-app screen opens with the full cook plan including the Gantt chart and all steps. Use:
โ Share / Export on a real mobile device โ opens the native share sheet
๐ Copy Cook Plan on desktop or emulator โ copies as plain text to clipboard
๐ ย ย ย Shopping and Cost Tracking
ย Shopping lists, prices, and budget estimates
Regal Pantry comes with 921 US average grocery prices pre-loaded. You don't need to import any CSV or configure anything โ cost badges appear on recipe cards, in your planner's weekly summary, and on every shopping list item from your very first visit.
These are reasonable average prices from US grocery stores. If you want more accurate estimates for your area or preferred stores, you can import your own price list in Settings โ Ingredient Price List โ Import CSV.
The Shopping List automatically combines every ingredient from every recipe across your entire planned week. Duplicate ingredients are merged and quantities are added up. Everything is sorted into nine store sections: Produce, Meat & Fish, Dairy & Eggs, Dry Goods & Grains, Canned & Jarred, Oils/Spices & Condiments, Frozen, Bakery, and Other.
You can also add extra items manually with the + Add Item button, choosing your own store section and optional price.
If you use the Pantry Tracker, the shopping list checks each ingredient against your pantry and shows a badge:
๐ฆ In Pantry ยท [qty] (green) โ exact name match. You have this recorded in your pantry.
๐ฆ Possible Pantry Match (amber) โ similar name. Worth checking before you buy.
Badges are informational only โ they don't check items off or change the cost total. You decide whether to buy or skip.
Go to Settings โ Ingredient Price List โ Download Template. This gives you a CSV pre-filled with every ingredient from the catalog โ add your prices in column B and import it back. Your prices override the pre-loaded defaults for those ingredients; everything else keeps the built-in averages.
You can also enter prices one at a time in the Recipe Editor โ open any recipe, tap Edit, and fill in the $/unit column next to each ingredient. Prices save globally and apply everywhere that ingredient appears.
Yes. Go to Settings โ Ingredient Price List โ Reset to Defaults. A confirmation dialog warns you that any custom prices you've entered will be lost. Confirming restores all 921 pre-loaded US average prices.
๐ฆ ย ย Pantry Tracker
ย Managing your home stock and imports
The Pantry is a reference list of what you regularly keep stocked at home โ olive oil, garlic, rice, common spices, and so on. Add items once and the Shopping List will flag matching ingredients with "In Pantry" badges so you know to check before buying them.
The Pantry is not a live inventory that auto-deducts when you cook. It's a staples reference โ you update it periodically as you run out of things.
Yes. Tap the pencil โ๏ธ icon on the right side of any pantry row. The row expands into edit mode showing:
A quantity field with โยฝ, โ1, โ5 quick-decrement buttons for reinventorying as you use things up
Store Section pills to reassign the category if it was auto-detected incorrectly
Tap โ Save to confirm or Cancel to discard.
Tap Download Template to get a CSV with example rows and a list of valid categories. Fill in your items (delete the comment rows first), then tap Import CSV to load them.
The CSV format is four columns: name, quantity, unit, category. Leave the category blank to auto-assign based on the ingredient name. Valid categories are: Produce, Meat & Fish, Dairy & Eggs, Dry Goods & Grains, Canned & Jarred, Oils Spices & Condiments, Frozen, Bakery, Other.
Note: Write "Oils Spices & Condiments" without a comma in the CSV โ this keeps the file clean in Excel. The app recognizes it and maps it correctly.
Tap the pencil โ๏ธ icon on that pantry row, then tap the correct store section pill, then tap Save. The item will move to the right filter section immediately.
The automatic categorization uses ingredient name keywords. Common edge cases: plain "garlic" goes to Oils/Spices (as a spice/condiment), while "garlic cloves" or "fresh garlic" goes to Produce. If you're seeing unexpected results, the edit mode is the quick fix.
โ๏ธ ย Technical
ย Installation, performance, exports, and troubleshooting
All your data is stored in your device's local storage โ your planner, recipes, pantry, shopping list, prices, and settings never leave your device.
To back up your data before reinstalling or switching devices:
Export your custom recipes via Recipes โ Export My Recipes
Export your pantry via Pantry โ Export My Pantry
Export your prices via Settings โ Export My Prices
Keep those CSV files safe. When you reinstall, import them back to restore everything.
Android's WebView (the browser engine inside apps) doesn't support the standard browser download dialog. Instead, Regal Pantry uses Android's native Filesystem to save exports directly to your Documents folder. You'll see a confirmation alert: "Saved to Documents/[filename]".
Open your phone's Files app and navigate to Documents to find your export. You can then move, share, or open it from there.
Close and reopen the app. As a web-based app, memory builds up over long sessions on mobile devices. A fresh open clears everything. Your data is safe โ it's all in localStorage, which persists across restarts.
On Android: Settings โ Apps โ Regal Pantry โ Storage โ Clear Data.
On iPhone: Settings โ Apps โ Manage Storage โ Regal Pantry โ Delete Data from Cloud.
This is irreversible, so export any custom recipes, pantry items, and prices first if you want to keep them.
If you're seeing this on a real device, it may indicate an older Android WebView version. The app works fine regardless โ only the cosmetic fade is affected.
๐ ย Privacy and Legal
ย Data privacy, AI content, and terms of use
No. Regal Pantry collects zero personal data. There are no servers, no analytics, no advertising networks, no user accounts, and no tracking of any kind. Your meal plans, recipes, pantry, and settings are stored exclusively on your device and never leave it.
The only outbound network requests the app makes are to load emoji images (Twemoji CDN) and fonts (Google Fonts) โ standard asset requests that don't transmit any personal information.
All 480 built-in recipes were generated by Claude (Anthropic's AI model) and reviewed for quality, safety, and accuracy. However, as with any recipe โ whether from a cookbook, a website, or a chef โ you should use your own cooking judgement.
Specifically: ingredient quantities in AI-generated recipes may occasionally need adjustment to taste, timing can vary by oven, and nutritional values are estimates rather than certified figures. We recommend treating the recipes as excellent starting points rather than rigid formulas.
The 480 built-in recipe database is proprietary to Regal Pantry. Automated scraping, copying, or reproducing the database โ in whole or in part โ is prohibited under our Terms of Service, regardless of whether individual recipes are individually copyrightable.
Recipes you create, modify, or paste yourself are your own and can be exported and used freely.
No โ not as a sole safeguard. The allergen filter is a helpful guide for everyday meal planning, but it is not a medical tool and should not be treated as one.
Allergen tags are generated algorithmically from ingredient names. They may not account for:
Hidden allergens in brand-specific products (e.g. some soy sauces contain wheat)
Cross-contamination during manufacturing
Ingredient substitutions you make while cooking
Your specific medical threshold for an allergen
Always read every physical ingredient label before cooking for someone with a serious food allergy, and consult a qualified allergist for medical dietary guidance.
