REFUSE TO SHARE — PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: September 4, 2026
Overview
Refuse to Share is a Chrome extension designed to detect cookie consent interfaces and safely reject non-essential cookies whenever a verifiable rejection option is available.
The extension operates locally in the user’s browser. It does not require an account and does not use advertising, analytics or external servers.
Data handled by the extension
To provide its main functionality, Refuse to Share temporarily processes limited information from the webpage currently open in the browser.
Website content
The extension examines the structure and visible text of cookie consent interfaces, including button labels, preference controls, switches and consent-management elements. This processing is necessary to identify a safe rejection option or verify that optional cookie categories are disabled.
The webpage content is processed temporarily and locally. It is not retained, transmitted to the developer or shared with third parties.
Web browsing activity
The extension operates on HTTP and HTTPS webpages and may temporarily read the current website hostname to apply local extension settings and provide its user-facing functions.
By default, Refuse to Share does not create or retain a browsing history. Website names, domains, URLs, page titles and the contents of visited pages are not stored or transmitted.
If the user explicitly enables the optional local activity log, the extension stores the website domain, calendar date and outcome of supported consent actions. The activity log does not store full URLs, page titles, webpage contents, cookie values or the time of the visit.
Activity-log information remains exclusively in the user’s browser and is never transmitted to the developer or shared with third parties.
Information stored locally
Refuse to Share stores only the information required to provide its user-facing functions:
• the user’s extension settings;
• whether automatic protection is enabled;
• whether the optional Global Privacy Control feature is enabled;
• whether the optional local activity log is enabled;
• aggregate daily counts of verified cookie rejections;
• aggregate counts of cases in which the choice was left to the user;
• when the optional activity log is enabled, the calendar date, website domain and outcome of supported consent actions;
• temporary technical results associated with the current browser tab.
Except for the website domains stored when the user explicitly enables the optional activity log, these records do not contain website names, domains, URLs, page titles, cookie-banner text or personal identifiers.
The optional activity log is disabled by default. It does not store full URLs, page titles, webpage contents, cookie values, personal identifiers or the time of the visit.
Daily aggregate counters and optional activity-log entries are retained locally for a maximum of 30 days. Overall aggregate totals and settings remain until the user deletes them, resets the local report or removes the extension.
Global Privacy Control
Global Privacy Control is optional and disabled by default.
When the user enables it, Refuse to Share sends the standard Sec-GPC: 1 signal to websites and exposes the corresponding browser preference. This signal communicates that the user does not want personal information to be sold or shared.
The signal is sent directly to the websites visited. It is not sent to the developer and is not used to create a browsing history.
Data transmission and sharing
Refuse to Share does not transmit website content, browsing activity, locally stored activity-log entries, extension statistics or personal data to the developer.
No user data is:
• sold;
• shared with advertising platforms;
• shared with data brokers;
• used for personalized advertising;
• used for creditworthiness or lending;
• transferred for purposes unrelated to the extension’s single purpose;
• made available for human review.
The extension does not include analytics systems, advertisements, tracking tools or third-party data-collection services.
Remote code
Refuse to Share does not download or execute remote code. All JavaScript and other executable code are included in the extension package distributed through the Chrome Web Store.
Permissions
Refuse to Share uses the following permissions:
Storage
Used to save local settings, aggregate counters, optional activity-log entries and temporary per-tab results.
Scripting
Used to execute packaged functions required to communicate with supported consent-management interfaces and to activate the optional Global Privacy Control feature.
Host permissions
Required to identify and interact with cookie consent interfaces on HTTP and HTTPS webpages.
Declarative Net Request with Host Access
Used only to add the Sec-GPC: 1 header when the user explicitly enables Global Privacy Control. It is not used to record, redirect or inspect network traffic.
User control and deletion
Users can disable automatic protection, Global Privacy Control or the optional local activity log from the extension’s interfaces.
The activity log is disabled by default and records information only after the user explicitly enables it. Disabling the activity log prevents new entries from being recorded.
Aggregate local statistics and activity-log entries can be deleted from the local report. Activity-log entries are automatically deleted after a maximum of 30 days.
Removing the extension from Chrome deletes its locally stored information according to Chrome’s extension storage management.
Limited Use compliance
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
All information handled by Refuse to Share is limited to providing or improving the extension’s disclosed single purpose.
Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated if the extension’s functionality or data practices change. Any material change will be reflected in this page and, where required, in the Chrome Web Store disclosures.
