The Reformation Study Bible (previously published as the New Geneva Study Bible) is a study Bible published by Ligonier Ministries. The Reformation Study Bible "aims to carry on the legacy of the Geneva Bible in shining forth the light of biblical Christianity, which was recovered in the Reformation."[1] As of late 2021, all editions of the Reformation Study Bible feature the Bible text of the English Standard Version (ESV).

Starting in 1989, R. C. Sproul assembled a team of contributors to work on a study Bible edition that would follow a distinctively Reformed perspective.[2] In 1995, Thomas Nelson (now HarperCollins) published the New Geneva Study Bible (featuring the Bible text of the New King James Version); the name of the edition was changed to Reformation Study Bible in 1998.

The result, as it is germane to our discussion here, is that the CT and TR differ in some places, a few of which are substantial. (For example, Mark 16:9-20 is present in the TR, but most CT based translations either do not publish it or have it bracketed with a note saying it is not in the earliest extant manuscripts) While some of the disputed passages are noted in the study note, there are many that have no indication of their disputed status (eg Acts 8:37, 1 John 5:7). I would have preferred some kind of indication of this, but also recognize that this may have been a limitation due to publishing rights for the NKJV text.

Apart from that, the RSB treats these verses exactly as it treats non-disputed verses, with appropriate study notes and explanations. This demonstrates that while it was not likely a tremendous amount of effort, this is not simply a reprint with a different version. Additional content was produced and added for this edition.

These short form theological articles serve as a sort of middle point between the study notes and the long form theological articles which appear (primarily) at the end of the book. As you would expect, they appear in areas which contain central topics (Image of God in Genesis 1, Covenant of Works in Genesis 2, Original Sin in Genesis 3). The only complaint I have about these short-form articles is that they are too sparse. They serve as excellent primers on major concepts, and their proximity to the biblical texts which they are associated helps to connect the Systematic Theology represented to the texts from which it is sourced.

Now available for a Portuguese readership, the Reformation Study Bible elevates Scripture on every page, providing comprehensive and trustworthy commentary that is accessible to every reader. This unparalleled study resource contains more than 1.1 million words of verse-by-verse and topical explanations, theological notes and articles, and nearly two millennia of historic Christian creeds and confessions.

The new Reformation Study Bible notes are designed to work with the English Standard Version and carefully crafted to offer an unparalleled reading, study, and discipleship experience for every stage of the Christian life. A group of 75 distinguished biblical scholars and theologians, led by R.C. Sproul, contribute to this new edition, providing expertise and essential tools for studying the Bible.

The descrip[tion suggests that it will load all my other Logos books and purchases, but it will not load the FaithLife study notes. Also, I am surprised that I have effectively purchased the Reformation Study Bible, but it does not show up as a book in my other apps. iTunes won't give me a refund either - I want to be able to use all of my books/notes/bibles on one app - I thought this would do it (from the screenshots and limited information), but now it seems like I'd have to purchase the full price Reformation Study Bible notes on Logos if I want to be able to run it all on one app.

I did get the RSB app produced by Logos ( -study-bible/id501273559?mt=8), not the other one. It does read some books in, but not all of them. Not a great product if you are looking for any integration.

The Student Edition of the Reformation Study Bible is a high-quality study Bible that benefits from some streamlining to improve portability and some student-focused additional material to aid younger Christians. With the multitude of excellent online resources available to help students tackle complex issues, I was initially doubtful of the need for a student-focused edition. After reviewing the Student Edition, the category of students who I suspect would benefit most from the edition are those who are young in the faith, or younger in age. The clear definitions and apologetics callouts will prove helpful to those who are just beginning their reading of the Bible. Older students, and those more mature in the faith, would likely benefit from the standard version of the Reformation Study Bible with its more extensive resources. In sum, this Student Edition is great as an accessible and affordable study Bible for youth, or newer Christian students.

I received the edition pictured here. The cover is beautiful and also very solid. The binding clearly will hold up quiet well under lengthy use. There are, of course, other bindings available including leather. The pages are extremely thin, however, and it is easy to see the text through the page. The font is small, though readable. As with most other modern study bibles, there is very little space in the margins for writing notes (apart from sections of biblical poetry).

"If you are looking for a study Bible with notes that reect a high view of Scripture, God and grace, united with a faithful and readable translation of God's Word, then look no further. You've found it."

"I would like every English-speaking Christian to own and use the Reformation Study Bible. No study notes are infallible, only the Bible is, but I know of only a few other study Bibles as good as this one.

This is the feature that stands out the most in this Bible. It can be difficult to know where to begin a study, or how to guide worship in your home (or even a small group Bible study for that matter). These thoughts are included in every chapter and provide a few discussion points which can be used as a standalone feature or as a baseline to guide you into more depth.

As to the eschatological teachings, being that they are reformed, they will typically be amillennial, or postmillennial. I confess that being a Reformed Baptist with Dispensational Premillenial Eschatology (no that is not a typographical error, I belong to the same school of thought as MacArthur), I did not read them in depth. At the same time, the other articles were absolutely terrific. If you were to cover one article per week in a study environment, you would have a solid foundation in theology in a year.

This is the classic King James Version, laid out in a double column verse by verse format. The Bible text itself occupies approximately half of the page with the notes occupying the bottom half of the page. This particular version is not a reference edition, which does not particularly bother me. I have a tendency to not use references when I am studying, with the exception of my Thompson Chain or Westminster Reference Bibles as, most of the time, they do not follow my train of thought.

Every Reformation Heritage Bible is smythe sewn, even the hardcover that I am reviewing. This is uncommon for many hardcover Bibles and is quite welcome here. For a Bible with so many features, any other choice of binding would not make sense. While it may not be your primary Bible, or your teaching Bible if you teach, it is absolutely intended to be used daily for study and the sewn binding guarantees that it will go the distance.

This is the first book I checked out from the library stacks as a first-year graduate

student. This book (originally published in 1885) is historically important because it showed

that memory (and by extension other mental processes) could be studied scientifically and

quantitatively. In this day and age in which I am studying memory and aging processes as they

unfold in the brain, I still find this book, and the pioneering work of Ebbinghaus, inspiring.

Theory always has a history, even as it tries to abstract patterns from the intellectual,

cultural, social and political formations of any historical moment. In this wonderful

two-volume study, Dosse illuminates some of the most influential theories of our own moment by

situating them within their formative contexts.

This lay-level commentary helps you study the New Testament in a deep and meaningful way with commentaries and devotional warmth wrapped in an English Standard Version (ESV) and King James Version (KJV) translation. Both translations are kept side by side to showcase the historical and classic KJV translation alongside the more modern ESV. This series is perfect for church works, Bible class teachers, beginning theologians, or anyone interested in learning more about the Bible.

A conspicuous feature of contemporary historical scholarship in the United States has been the resurgence of interest in the Reformation and a revival of scholarly concern with the Puritans of seventeenth-century England and eighteenth-century America. The increased activity of Roman Catholicism in America has resulted in a heightened Protestant self-consciousness and may account in large measure for the revival of Reformation study, while the present straits of Anglo-Saxon culture and society have caused men to re-examine the major current of their heritage in an effort to understand from whence they came and whither they may be tending. ff782bc1db
