If you want a robust, general-purpose Class IV hitch capable of handling heavier loads for your ATV or utility trailer, choose REESE Towpower 44662; if you need a custom-molded Class 3 solution specifically engineered for a 2018-2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and prioritized for a lower profile fit, choose Draw-Tite.
These two products sit in different weight classes and serve distinct vehicle architectures, making the choice less about brand loyalty and more about matching the hardware to your specific towing demands. The REESE Towpower 44662 is built as a heavy-duty workhorse with a 3500-pound gross towing capacity, designed for SUVs, vans, and light trucks that need to haul substantial gear. For an ATV owner looking to tow a small utility cart or a medium-sized cargo trailer, the REESE option provides the necessary safety margin and structural bulk that the smaller receiver tube of the Draw-Tite might not accommodate depending on the hitch ball mount used. However, if you are installing this on the specific crossover mentioned, the Draw-Tite offers a cleaner, factory-fitted aesthetic that minimizes visible gaps between the bumper and the receiver.
• Draw-Tite: Features a custom-fit design tested to exceed V-5 and SAE J684 standards with a sleeker profile; trade-off is its strict vehicle compatibility limited to the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and exclusion from weight distribution setups.
• Best for: Choose the REESE for general heavy-duty towing needs across various light trucks and SUVs, while the Draw-Tite is the only logical choice for owners of the 2018-2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross seeking a seamless install.
The REESE Towpower 44662 is designed for the buyer who needs a no-nonsense, high-capacity hitch without worrying about complex vehicle-specific engineering. This makes it an ideal candidate for ATV owners who frequently transport utility trailers, small campers, or equipment that pushes the limits of lighter hitches. The all-welded construction ensures that the frame can withstand the stress of heavy loads without flexing, providing peace of mind when hauling gear over uneven terrain.
This hitch is perfect for owners of passenger cars, SUVs, vans, and light trucks who need a versatile solution that fits a broad range of applications. The inclusion of a hitch box cover adds a layer of protection against debris and moisture, keeping the receiver clean when not in use. If you prioritize raw lifting power and durability over a minimalist look, this unit delivers exactly what you need.

However, you should skip this product if your vehicle has a very tight rear bumper clearance or if you are driving a compact crossover where a bulky 34.81-inch long hitch might interfere with ground clearance or rear door operation. The sheer size of the unit means it will be more visible than a lower-profile alternative.
The Draw-Tite Class 3 hitch represents a different philosophy entirely, focusing on precision integration rather than brute force. Designed specifically for the 2018-2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, this unit is custom-built to match the manufacturer's specifications, ensuring a "perfect fit" that minimizes the gap between the vehicle body and the hitch. This is critical for owners who value aesthetics as much as function, as the custom design likely reduces the amount of exposed metal and provides a cleaner look compared to universal-style hitches. The black powder coat finish, applied as a two-part system, is engineered to resist rust and corrosion, which is essential for vehicles driven in varying weather conditions.
While these numbers sound impressive, it is vital to note that this hitch is not suitable for use with weight distribution systems. This limitation means it is best suited for straightforward towing scenarios like carrying a small boat, a camper shell, or a utility trailer directly off the ball, without the added complexity of sway control bars. The rigorous fatigue and stress testing to meet and exceed V-5 and SAE J684 standards indicates that the manufacturer has validated its performance under real-world road abuse, giving confidence that the welds and structure will hold up over time.
You should buy this unit if you own the specified Mitsubishi model and want a hitch that feels like it came standard with the car. The dimensions suggest a slightly wider and shorter profile compared to the long, narrow REESE unit, which might suit the rear geometry of the Eclipse Cross better. However, if you plan to tow anything requiring a weight distribution system, or if you do not own the specific vehicle model listed, this product is not an option for you. The strict vehicle compatibility is its biggest constraint, limiting its utility to a single niche market.
• Best for Vehicle Integration → Draw-Tite: Its custom design for the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ensures a tighter fit and potentially less visible installation than the universal REESE model.
• Best for Durability Claims → Draw-Tite: Explicitly tested to exceed V-5 and SAE J684 standards with a two-part powder coat finish for enhanced rust resistance.
• Best for Versatility → REESE Towpower 44662: Compatible with a wide range of passenger cars, SUVs, vans, and light trucks, whereas the Draw-Tite is locked to one specific make and model.
• Best for Weight Distribution Setup → REESE Towpower 44662: The REESE does not list restrictions on weight distribution systems, unlike the Draw-Tite which explicitly forbids their use.
• Best for Compact Fit → Draw-Tite: At 12 inches in height and 17 inches in width, it may offer a lower profile than the 34.81-inch length of the REESE unit, fitting tighter spaces better.
• Best for ATV Owners → REESE Towpower 44662: The combination of a 2-inch receiver and higher tongue weight capacity makes it the safer bet for hauling typical ATV utility trailers.
• Best for Rust Resistance → Draw-Tite: The specific mention of a two-part black powder coat finish highlights a dedicated focus on corrosion protection for the specific environment the Mitsubishi sees.
For the vast majority of buyers, especially those in the ATV community who need to haul reliable, heavy-duty gear, I would buy the REESE Towpower 44662. The extra capacity and the lack of restrictive limitations regarding weight distribution systems provide a level of flexibility that the specialized Draw-Tite simply cannot match. While the Draw-Tite is an excellent piece of engineering for its specific target audience, the REESE offers a broader safety margin and a more robust build that justifies its presence for serious towing tasks. If you own a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, the Draw-Tite is the only choice, but for everyone else looking for a solid, dependable connection for their vehicle, the REESE stands out as the stronger performer.
No, the Draw-Tite Class 3 hitch described is custom-designed specifically for the 2018-2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and will not fit other vehicles without modification.
Both feature black finishes, but the Draw-Tite explicitly highlights a two-part powder coat finish tested to resist rust and corrosion as part of its standard specification.
