Supported by the Interdisciplinary Research Group in Music and Sound Sciences and Technologies, established in 2018 and certified by CNPq (http://dgp.cnpq.br/dgp/espelhogrupo/2535553439875794), Professor Dr. Catanzaro successfully founded the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Sound Studies (LINES) within the Department of Music. This initiative aims to create a dynamic team composed of students, faculty, and researchers from various fields throughout the University of Brasília (UnB) and other Brazilian as well as international universities.
In April 2019, the Continuous Action Project (PEAC) Entrelinhas was inaugurated to establish a comprehensive framework for the activities of LINES. Its mission is to promote the research, creation, analysis, production, education, and dissemination of contemporary music, an effort recognized by the Extension Coordination of UnB. Upholding the belief that contemporary music culture should not only be preserved but actively championed, Entrelinhas is committed to advancing Latin American compositional creativity. This encompasses the publication of original works across diverse media, the support of intellectual and artistic endeavors, the design of innovative instruments, and the enhancement of teaching and performance opportunities in contemporary music for aspiring young musicians. Additionally, the project aims to foster interdisciplinary collaborations, enriching the landscape of contemporary music further.
LINES offers a wide range of activities, including conferences, workshops, courses, concerts, and an artistic incubator (pépinière). These initiatives are designed to profoundly reshape the landscape of contemporary music, particularly in Brasília, where the programs are centered. By fostering an active and vibrant community engaged in shared contemporary challenges, LINES aspires to make a lasting impact.
