Effective date: March 24, 2026
Redacted: Blur sensitive text (“Redacted”, “the extension”, “we”) is designed to help users hide sensitive content on webpages for safer screenshots, demos, and screen sharing.
This Privacy Policy explains what data the extension accesses, how it is used, and what choices users have.
Redacted processes webpage content locally in your browser to detect and mask sensitive text.
Redacted does not sell personal data.
Redacted does not use page content for advertising.
Redacted does not transfer sensitive page content to external servers for redaction.
To perform redaction, the extension may access:
Visible webpage text and input field metadata (for example field names/ids such as card, cvv, amount, password, account, etc.).
Active tab information needed to apply user-requested actions.
Extension settings saved by the user.
This access is limited to what is needed for the extension’s single purpose: masking sensitive content on webpages and creating redacted screenshots.
Information is used only to:
Detect likely sensitive fields and values on webpages.
Apply visual masking/redaction in the page.
Allow manual controls (Redact Now / Unredact / Redact & Screenshot).
Capture and save user-requested screenshots.
Persist user preferences (for example auto-redaction, hover-reveal, disabled domains).
Redacted stores user preferences in chrome.storage.sync, such as:
enableAuto
hoverReveal
disabledDomains
other redaction settings (if configured)
These settings are stored through Chrome’s extension storage system and may sync across the user’s signed-in Chrome profile.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not share or transfer webpage content for unrelated purposes.
We do not use accessed data for creditworthiness, lending, or advertising profiling.
storage: save extension preferences.
tabs / activeTab: identify and interact with the current tab for redaction and status.
scripting: inject/execute extension scripts when needed for user-requested redaction.
downloads: save user-requested redacted screenshots.
host_permissions (<all_urls>): allow masking on sites where users choose to use the extension.
When you use Redact & Screenshot, the extension captures the visible tab and saves the file locally to your device via Chrome Downloads.
You are responsible for reviewing screenshots before sharing them.
If the extension includes optional donation links (for example PayPal), those links open third-party services governed by their own privacy policies.
Redacted does not control third-party privacy practices.
We aim to minimize data use and process redaction locally in-browser.
No system can guarantee absolute security; users should verify masked output before sharing sensitive material.
Redacted is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
If updated, the “Effective date” above will be revised.
