Interests:

Ms. Shauna Petrie is one of the two consumer representatives that will be involved in the ReCon Team activities. She has a specialized Honours Bachelor degree in French, a Bachelor of Education (also in French) and a Master’s Degree in Education. Her Master’s thesis focused on Educational Counselling. She taught French Immersion for 10 years and then worked for Elementary Teacher’s Federation for 7 years. She then began her own business, Sea Wheels Inc., specializing in arranging accessible travel for persons with disabilities. Shauna was a previous board member of the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation for 4 years and was Chair of their Consumer Outreach Committee. She also served many years on the Board of CPA Ontario (now SCI Ontario) years and volunteered extensively with the organization. She was responsible for organizing their first Wheelchair Relay in Ontario, one of their largest and most successful fundraising events. She was recognized by the government of Ontario in 1997 with the Community Action Award. She currently serves as past chair on the board of the Coalition for Persons with Disabilities. Her main interests are competitive Scrabble, hand cycling and wheelchair curling. She plays for Team Toronto and was a provincial champion in 2011.
