Winter is part of a series reflecting monthly field work myself and others at the University at Buffalo conducted to collect data from a lake in western New York.

Winter field work can be challenging. However, when a thick layer of lake ice cover the lake, it's possible to walk right onto the lake to take our samples. But with recent warm winters, I haven't been able to experience this.

My field work, and the University at Buffalo, are on the lands of the Seneca Nation, a member of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
