Summer is part of a series reflecting monthly field work myself and others at the University at Buffalo conducted to collect data from a lake in western New York.

Data loggers shown in this painting, suspended in the lake by a buoy, collect information about temperature and water level year-round. A sediment trap, attached to the same rope, collects sediment that washes into the lake and sinks towards the bottom.

My field work, and the University at Buffalo, are on the lands of the Seneca Nation, a member of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
