☆ My parents were dodgers, so I lived my life running from place to place. The last time I felt free was when we went to the beach, Labor-in-Pain. When I was 16, my parents and I went to the Cession and got new identities. I started school. One day I came home to find military police there. They had surrendered but were killed anyway. I hid in the garage and did nothing.
At the age of 18, I said the words and joined the army. I wanted to beat them at their own game. A year later, I went to join the Spree, and was given a balloon and instructions. I reluctantly followed them and on Conscription Day, went to a mall and made 1600 people jump to their deaths. Not my finest moment, I know.
Everything changed when I met Raelle Collar. A new recruit to the army who I instantly connected with. Though Anacostia told me to stay away from her, I didn’t listen. I was still Spree, and I had orders to get Raelle, so I would follow them. Everything is going well until Porter arrives and makes Raelle question me. I influence him to jump to his death. But life has a funny way of working out. Raelle finds him and tries to heal him.
Raelle gets hurt trying to heal him and I’m worried about her. She asks me questions about my past but I dodge them and tell her I’m falling in love with her. She says that she’ll always be with me no matter what. This is when I begin to question my loyalty to the Spree, as I am truly falling in love with Raelle.
I’m not invited to Charvel Bellweather’s wedding but I have orders to take Raelle from there and so I go anyway. I ask if Raelle will be safe, but they say ‘no more questions’. Unfortunately, Tally sees me and tells Anacostia that I’m Spree.
Raelle and I dance, and I tell her that no matter what happens, I love her. I then decide to betray the Spree and not bring her in. I love her, and I’m not going to bring her to those who might hurt her.
I'm taken into custody and they interrogate me about the attack at the wedding, which I had nothing to do with. I’m strong, though. They can’t break me. And so they bring Raelle in an attempt to make me vulnerable. I kiss Raelle and tell her not to believe every bad thing she hears about me and that I love her.
Alder orders to send me to prison, but Anacostia has doubts. I see Raelle one more time and tell her that my love for her is real. It was never fake. Anacostia comes to tell me I’m going to jail in two hours but she frees me, telling me to hold on to the part of me that’s good. She gives me a lighter and tells me to make the escape look good.
I knock her out and walk out, disguised as her. I go to a Spree house, where I say a code to enter. I find out that the leader of my Spree cell is Raelle’s mother, Willa Collar. She chastises me for not bringing Raelle.
Given the resurgence of the Camarilla, the Spree’s mission has changed. The Camarilla are enemies to all witches, army or not. I go to a rally where they say that the army doesn’t want to fight the Spree, because we’re all witches. I continue to investigate the Camarilla and end up running into Anacostia, who is doing the same. We start to work together.
Anacostia and I make a plan to further infiltrate the Camarilla. We go undercover and follow them. And I even catch a glimpse of Raelle. Anacostia and I go to a gala full of Camarilla and manage to rescue a young witch they had been planning on sacrificing.
We find out that the Camarilla are keeping witch children in cages in a vet’s office. Willa, Raelle’s mother, and I go to the Camaarilla’s stronghold and rescue Raelle. Willa tells her to keep fighting, that leaving her was the biggest mistake of her life. She takes the witchplague into herself, saving Raelle, but she ends up dying herself in the process.
I accompany Raelle and her unit on a mission to find Nicte Batan, the leader of the Spree. I help them get out of some traps but Abigail, Raelle, and I start arguing due to Nicte’s Work. Eventually we get her and Raelle kisses me before leaving with her unit.
When Raelle and her unit have to leave Fort Salem, I join them, not wanting to be apart from Raelle any longer. We take refuge at a “paper factory” that’s really a home for dodgers. Raelle and I pick up where we left off, enjoying being together again.Unfortunately, our cover is blown and we have to leave there. While we’re on our way out, I offer to let Abigail use some Spree work to contact her mother. She agrees.
We all head into the Cession, putting up wards to keep the Marshals away, though Nicte doesn’t believe they exist. Abigail’s mother, Petra Bellweather, orders us to observe the Camarilla and figure out what they’re up to. Before we can go, we find out Raelle is taken by the Mycelium in order to heal her. She was feeling sick for a while. We manage to capture one of the Camarilla, Alban Hearst, but are forced to give him up when the Marshals close in on us.
We try to go further into the Cession, but we lost Khalida along with Raelle being taken by the Mycelium. Tally manages to locate Khalida with her Sight, and so we go to find her. I’m determined to somehow reach Raelle, and do everything that I can to do so. Nicte is worried I’ll catch the attention of the Marshals but I don’t listen to her. When the Marshals indeed catch us, Nicte remarks that I’ll have plenty of time to look for Raelle now. Abigail asks if I was able to contact her but unfortunately I wasn’t.
When Wade is seemingly assassinated, Blanton Silver is sworn in as President. Unfortunately for us, he’s Camarilla. We try to figure out what to do next, especially with Raelle gone and Alder somehow back looking for something called the First Song.
We try to break out but our work is no match for the Marshal’s wards. It’s Yule, though, so as a gesture of good faith, the Marshal moves the wards to the grounds so that we can get out and get some fresh air.
I again try to contact Raelle and Nicte and I finally bury the hatchet. She admits that she always gets cranky around Yule because her mother left and left her with her grandmother, who said that if she sang the Yule song all night, her mother might come back. It never happened.
We try to figure out what to do once the Council of the Great River comes, including whether or not to tell them that President Wade is alive. Nicte leaves, though.Tally tells Abigail and I that she saw a vision of Raelle ending the world with the Witchbomb. We tell her to try not to worry about it, especially not until we get Raelle back.
We then go to speak to the Council. I tell them all about how my parents were dodgers and that when we needed a place to hide, the Cession welcomed us. That they should consider allowing us to leave the Cession and go to California. The Council agrees to consider my request.
After some deliberation, the Council announces that we can leave the Cession but only if we don’t ever come back, including Raelle. Abigail feels we failed. That she failed to protect Charvel,Penelope, and Raelle, but I remind her that Raelle is not lost.
One of the Camarilla, Hearst, finds us. He tells me that I might want to say goodbye to Raelle. He leads us outside where he is holding Raelle’s father, Edwin, captive. He says he’ll let Edwin go if we surrender. Luckily, Alder appears and attacks the Camarilla.
I tell Edwin that Raelle is okay and still alive, since Hearst said she was dead. The Council decides not to kick us out since the threat of the Camarilla is there. I decide to get him to safety while Tally and Abigail get Alder to the Mycelium to heal.
Edwin asks me if I’ve ever been on a road trip. I explain that my parents were dodgers, so my childhood was like one big road trip.
Edwin gets questioned and I use Work to tell the person questioning him to go about their day. Edwin then chastises me, saying that I’m all he has left. I say he does have me but he has Raelle too. He just wants to hear her voice. I want to too, and I try to figure out a way to contact her.
I manage to contact Raelle and Edwin and I get to talk to her. He asks her if she’s safe and Raelle says she thinks so but she wants to go home. It is then that Willa, Raelle’s mother, breaks the connection. I then tell the truth to Edwin. That Willa didn’t die when he thought she did. She survived and joined the Spree, giving Scylla the mission of getting Raelle out of the army. But that she died for real less than a year ago, saving Raelle from the Camarilla.
We then go to Willa’s friend Quinn, to attempt to contact her. It works, and Edwin says that Raelle has a whole new life now, one with a new family and a woman (me) who loves her. He pleads with her to give Raelle back to us, but it doesn’t work.
I continue trying to find Raelle until Abigail pulls me away. She says that I’m part of the Unit now and that Raelle will find me. Tally and I discuss the situation with President Wade. She tells me that she hasn’t seen Wade in her visions and that she thinks the Council is in danger and we should talk to Abigail. I ask Tally if she could tap into the vision of Raelle destroying the world with the Witchbomb again. We head to the Council and arrive just in time to save Thelma Bearkiller. But I am eventually captured by the army, and therefore, the Camarilla.
Raelle saves me, though. We then agree to turn ourselves in to stop further bloodshed in the Cession. Raelle asks me to marry her if and when we get out of this and I say yes. I tell Raelle and everyone about what happened when the Camarilla had me. They wanted to know about Petra Bellweather’s plan and the First Song. Of course, I told them nothing.
We are put on trial, but it’s a sham. every time one of us tries to talk, we’re interrupted. Abigail asks if one of us can talk uninterrupted, and the Judge reluctantly agrees to let us. Raelle gives a great speech, but ultimately our fate is sealed. However, at that moment, President Wade walks in.
We are all exonerated by Wade and Raelle and I prepare for our wedding, which turns out to be a double wedding with Abigail and Adil. We are all relaxing, listening to Raelle’s beautiful voice when we get the bad news. Fort Salem has been attacked by the Camarilla.
We all head to defend Fort Salem and fight the Camarilla. Eventually we end up in the area that Tally saw in her vision of Raelle destroying the world and Adil and I collapse. Raelle tries to heal us, but it doesn’t work. Raelle asks me why her. I tell her that it’s simple, that she’s strong enough to bear it.
Tally says that she knows now what’s going to happen. The witchbomb will go off, but it’s about how she, Raelle, and Abigail change it. And change it they do. The stewards sing the First Song, Raelle detonates the witchbomb, and the whole world is changed.
Although I didn’t have a large part to play in that, I’m glad I got to witness it. And now? Well, now I get to live a life with the woman I love by my side. And what could be better than that?
