☆   Cressida has always suffered under her father's (and to a lesser extent, her mother's) ambitions. Though they are a well-respected family in the ton, that is not enough for Cressida's father. Lord Cowper made it clear from a young age that Cressida needed to take care to find a good match. Cressida understood, and became determined to attract a man, one who wouldn't expect much from her. She first set her sights on the Prince, then (though she didn't like him very much) Jack Featherington, and then Lord Debling. To always be cast aside was hard, but Cressida bore it as well as she could. 

Cressida has a secret, you see. Since a young age, she's never felt the way she should have about men. She felt that way about women, though. Her first crush was actually Daphne, before she became the Diamond, and ruined Cressida's plans. Then she sets her sights on Eloise, who also rejects her. It is that which mainly fuels her rivalry with Penelope, as she knows their longstanding friendship. 

When Eloise finally accepts her, Cressida is overjoyed. But of course, it is not to be. Perhaps she's just destined for unhappiness. Her father wants her to live with her aunt Joanna in Wales. Cressida doesn't want that. But how will she get out of it? Will she ever win Eloise back? Will she ever find happiness, or at least something close to it?  

Cressida is determined to do her best, but is that enough? And will she ever enjoy anything as much as her brief friendship with Eloise Bridgerton? Despite her talk, she's all bark and no bite.  She lacks the cleverness necessary to truly follow through with her plans, hence why she so admires Eloise. She has wanted to be friends with her for ages, but was initially rejected. 

Eloise rejecting her again sends her down a spiral she doesn't enjoy. For now, she'll wait. Bide her time. But she hopes it won't be forever. Doesn't even she deserve something good in life?
