☆ Her family worked their way up to the higher class, a position they wanted to keep. Antoinette’s mother wanted to ensure that this position stayed by marrying her daughter off to a nobleman–or perhaps even a prince. Antoinette went along with it, knowing that her mother had her best interests at heart. She didn’t know how to tell her mother that she did not want to marry. That she wanted to be with someone she could love and that she could never love a man the way she could love a woman.
She got a position at the prince’s court, somehow, one that her mother hoped would put her in the path of noblemen and perhaps even the prince himself. She would go along with it for her mother’s sake yet her heart was never in it. (Pre curse verse)
When the enchantress came and cursed the prince, she, like the other members of the court, stayed and got cursed as well. She had lost hope until Belle arrived. From the moment she saw Belle, she knew she’d be a good match for the prince/beast. She had spirit, something that he definitely would respect. (During curse/during movie verse)
Antoinette was glad to be right and happy to be set free of the curse. She didn’t like the idea of spending eternity as a feather duster. Post curse, she has reunited with her parents and has finally got the nerve to tell her mother the truth. Her mother does not fully understand it and is secretly hoping that it is some kind of strange aftereffect of the curse and that she will grow out of it, but she is not forcing her into marriage. Antoinette is hoping that she can convince Belle and that Belle will be able to convince Adam to give women more important jobs in the castle and in the government in general. And Antoinette herself hopes to get one of those jobs. Maybe that will get her mother off her back for good. (Post curse verse)
As she gets older, she begins to get restless. She can be patient but not forever. Luckily, she doesn’t have to be. She begins assisting Belle with teaching children to read. It isn’t quite what she wanted but it’s an enjoyable job. While doing her job, she happens to teach the child of a foreign diplomat and through that meets said diplomat. She ends up having skills for diplomacy and therefore finally gets the government job she wanted. Though when she’s not traveling or super busy, she still teaches children how to read. (Older verse)
