☆ Melike Soydan was not born with that name. No. She was born during the Ottoman Empire, during the reign of Selim I. Same year as Hurrem Sultan, fun fact. She was born in 1505. Her parents were not courtiers or wealthy, but the family got by. However, when she was 16, her father Dilan, and mother Nilufer, wanted to marry her off. She did not want to go and begged her parents not to send her, but they told her it was for her own good. Aylin, as she was called then, begged her parents to let her stay with them or at least choose her own husband. She had a friend, you see. A friend who shared her love of poetry, whom she would much rather marry. But her parents insisted. She told her friend the bad news, and he was devastated. So was she; she didn't want to marry someone she didn't even know or like.
She was eventually married off to a random Pasha, and this is when her life got hard. She was known then as Aylin Hatun (Lady). After a while, she gave birth to her first child, a girl. Named after her mother (secretly), and luckily her husband approved of the name. Then, two years later, a boy arrived. Aylin did not enjoy sexual relations with her husband and worried that something was wrong with her, as she had not enjoyed it with her friend either. And he, at least, had something in common with her. (Both of them loved poetry. ) Not that they had done much, but they had kissed a few times, though Aylin was apathetic to it.
One night, she was walking home from another Pasha's house, because she befriended his wife, and was attacked by a man from out of nowhere. She was surprised when the man bit her neck, and she tried to get him off her but he was so strong. She kept fighting, though, eventually cornered him with a fallen tree branch. She thrust it into his heart, and he immediately disintegrated. Confused, she continued home.
Once there, she noticed cravings that no food could satisfy. Worried she was pregnant again, she resolved to leave the Pasha, finally. But he caught her packing, leading to a big argument. Oddly, her cravings got worse. And so her first meal as a fledgling vampire was her husband.
She killed him and buried him in the backyard. Then she took her children to her friend's house to be raised, claiming she and her husband were going away for a while. And that she would eventually come back for them. She never did. That is probably her only regret. Though she never asked for children, she did love them to the best of her ability. But she knew her friend would give them a good home.
She stayed in Istanbul for a while, doing odd jobs to make enough money to leave. Finally, when she did, she headed to England. Empires rose, and empires fell.
She renamed herself, considering several names, including Nilufer, after her mother and daughter, Hurrem, and Mihrihmah. Not wanting to be too obvious with the name she chose, she finally settled on Melike. Once last names became more needed, she added Soydan. She became an author, anonymously, and eventually, her poetry took off. She kept having to fake her death and return as a descendant, but she didn't mind.
Eventually, she decided to travel the world. She went to so many places and saw so many sights. She enjoyed every bit of it.
In modern days, Melike Soydan has two houses, one in Istanbul, and one in London. She is a well-known author, poet, blogger, and YouTuber. And if sometimes bad men become corpses around her, she doesn't mind. (She only eats bad men, the rest of the time supplementing with stolen blood from blood banks and animal blood. She figures it's better than killing innocent people, something she would never want to do.)
Melike's life isn't perfect. But she's not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. And since she's immortal, she's got plenty of time to make things to her liking. She can be patient, when it's necessary. Sometimes she wishes she was still human, but she knows that being a vampire is a blessing in disguise. After all, without it, she never would've gotten rid of that Pasha she was married to.
