trigger warnings: parental death, cancer, to be added if requested
☆ Born to Robert and Annabelle Montgomery, Lizzy grew up with both of her parents, absolutely doted on. The Montgomery family owned a rather successful cafe and bookstore. Annabelle sold flowers there too. Liz was a rather precocious and curious child. Always asking questions and wise beyond her years. What she didn’t know for a while is that her parents hid a secret. As she got older, there were a few unexplainable incidents. A beloved cat disappearing into the pages of a book. Liz levitating a few inches above the floor. Cookies and candy appearing in her room out of nowhere. Eventually, her parents sat her down and explained, her father was a warlock, a rather powerful one. But because he had made enemies in the past, they lived a rather normal life, hidden from the other witches and warlocks. However, they hadn’t been sure if Lizzy would inherit the powers or not, with Annabelle being human. Lizzy finally had an explanation for the unexplainable incidents. She was a witch. Her father taught her everything he knew about the abilities. And she has a lot of control over them. Way more than her father ever had. Sure, sometimes she’d play the odd magical prank. But only if someone truly deserved it.
Lizzy went through high school with good grades, despite not having many friends. And then, a month after graduation, her world came crashing down. Cancer. Her mother got diagnosed with it. Her father explained that magic couldn’t save her. And neither could medicine, though the doctors tried their best. And so, Annabelle Montgomery died, but not before telling Lizzy to take care of her father. Brokenhearted, Robert sold the store in California and moved to a small town in Vermont. Lizzy didn’t really want to move, but would not judge her father for how he was processing his grief. Thanks to Lizzy, though, her father did not descend into old bad habits. Instead, he opened up a pawnshop. (Lizzy would’ve preferred a used bookstore, but again not judging.) She’d help her father out in the shop from time to time. Until one day he came to her and said she had the power to be a truly great witch. A good one as well. And that she needed to learn more than he can teach her. So she has to find the head witches and warlocks and have them teach her. The only thing is they’re in New York.
Lizzy practically begged her father to come with her, remembering her mother’s dying wish. But her father said he would be alright, and asked her to promise to visit. And so she did. Now Lizzy is in New York, working as a waitress by day, searching for the head witches and warlocks by night. She regularly visits her father in Vermont, though. And occasionally travels elsewhere. What Lizzy and her father don’t know is that Lizzy is meant to become the leader of all the witches and warlocks. To unite them all and bring them into a new era.
And Lizzy wouldn’t believe you if you told her. I mean, with her snarky personality? Yeah, right.
And unbeknownst to Lizzy, one of the head witches is a regular at her restaurant. She’s so close. If only she tries a bit harder.
