BIOGRAPHY.

☆ Born to a Chinese mother and Indonesian father, Hua ’s early years were perfectly normal. As far as she was concerned, anyway. Of course, she always felt about girls the way she was supposed to feel about boys. Her parents knew, and accepted their daughter’s sexuality. She was glad. As she didn’t want to disappoint her parents in any way. She loved them dearly.

Unfortunately, not everyone is so lucky. Hua befriended and eventually started dating Alanna Brown. The two got up to all kinds of mischief, except alcohol and drugs. Hua knew her parents would not approve of that. But Alanna’s mother one day caught them together. Unfortunately, her mother did not react as well as Hua’s own, and demanded her daughter end the relationship.

Hua was heartbroken, not wanting their relationship to end. But Alanna saw no other way of pleasing her mother. And so, even though Hua would keep trying to connect with her, Alanna would ignore the attempts. Hua then became a bit jaded and cynical, to the concern of her own parents. Finally, she comes clean about what happened with Alanna and her mother. Hua’s parents do their best to comfort their daughter, but it’s no use.

Later, as Alanna is sent away to a conversion ‘therapy’ place, and when she comes back the light has gone out of her eyes. Hua tries again to connect, but Alanna rejects her every time. Hua tries and tries, but Alanna won’t listen to reason. Alanna is convinced now, that they were doing something wrong. But for Hua, it was all okay. She tries to get through to her ex, but it doesn’t work.

Eventually, Hua’s parents intervene and tell her to stop trying with Alanna. And so she does. She does her best to move on, kisses a few more girls. But none of them make her feel the way Alanna did. She had been something special, Hua guesses.

A few months later, Alanna is found dead by her parents. A suicide. Hua feels guilty, because if she had just tried one more time , maybe she would’ve gotten through to Alanna. Hua’s parents are determined that it is not their daughter’s fault. That Hua had tried her best, but Alanna wouldn’t listen. But Hua is inconsolable.

She goes through the rest of high school and all of college in a daze. She majors in English and Creative Writing. Since her life feels like a horror film, she begins writing horror stories. Once she graduates from college, her first story gets published. It is basically a rewrite of the events with Alanna, except with a supernatural twist.

One day, she goes into her room, only to see Alanna? What? Alanna explains that Hua had been right. That if she had listened to her, she wouldn’t have made such a tragic decision. And that for her soul to have peace, they need to talk. And so, Hua talks. She helps Alanna. And eventually, Alanna is able to move to the afterlife.

Hua gains a reputation with ghosts in the area, who come to her for advice on how to move on. Fortunately, she doesn’t mind. After all, she can always make a novel out of it. In fact, she’s working on one now.
