☆ Diana Hunter was born Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald. Her parents were Henry and Anna Fitzgerald. Henry was a well known businessman and Anna was from a wealthy family and had no other ambitions besides to marry wealthy and have a family. The two were a match made in heaven and though they weren’t in love, they got along fine. Mary, of course, was kept blissfully unaware of this. Her parents absolutely doted on her. From a young age, Mary was ambitious. She always had big dreams of what she’d like to do when she grew up. Her dreams changed regularly from princess to architect to detective and on and on. Her parents fully supported her, especially her father. As she grew older, Mary became closer to her father than her mother. Though she loved her mother, she saw her lack of a career–or ever having wanted one–as a lack of ambition and that is something Mary could never understand, being so ambitious herself. When Mary was in high school, her father decided to run for a local government position in their town in California. Mary supported him, of course. And he won in a landslide. More on that later. Mary continued high school, her grades straight As. Her father continued to move up the political ladder, becoming a senator in her junior year of high school. Mary was so proud of her father. And all of those people saying he was corrupt…well they were just angry that their preferred candidate hadn’t won, weren’t they? Though Mary remained close with both her parents, she didn’t tell them everything. She was intelligent enough to know their opinions on everything did not agree with her own. And although she hoped that one day they could agree, she respected their opinions and did not see the point in trying to change them. So she tended to keep them out of her intensely personal life. Any boyfriends and girlfriends she had were known only to her friends. And she was alright with that. One day, during her senior year of high school, Mary was in her father’s office looking for a book she believed she had left there. In her search, she came across a secret drawer in her father’s desk. It was locked. Her curiosity got the better of her and after she found her book, she attempted to open the drawer but it didn’t work. So she decided to come back another day and try again. She did. Several times. And she was finally able to open the drawer. In it, she found documents, pictures, records of conversations. All of which implicated her father in various crimes from misuse of company funds to murder. Mary was shocked. When her father got home, she confronted him. He admitted to his crimes but told Mary to not tell anyone. That all of that was in the past and that he was a different person now.Mary didn’t know what to do or what to believe but she couldn’t tell on her father. Though she hated him for what he did, he was still her father and she couldn’t help but love him. She asked him if her mother knew and he said she did. Mary couldn’t believe that either and confronted her mother who simply said that she didn’t mind as long as the money kept coming in. She revealed that she had married Mary’s father for money, not love. Mary knew her mother had never had much ambition but she was shocked. Both of her parents were revealed to be horrible people on that day. Yet she still couldn’t help but love them. She finished high school at the top of her class, winning the title of valedictorian, personal turmoil aside. She decided that she wanted to be a lawyer. To get justice for those who deserve it and to ensure that those who deserve punishment get that as well. She confronted her father yet again and said that she wanted to go to college just like everyone else. However, she wanted nothing to do with him or her mother for the rest of her life. She said that if he did not agree to her demands, she would ensure that his secrets were leaked to the press. Which would jeopardize his future in the Senate and his dreams of becoming President. So he agreed. He helped Mary legally change her name and thus Diana Hunter was born. She got a scholarship to a good college and her father paid for the rest of her education. He also sent her a monthly allowance of $500, which she saved for emergencies. The money she used on a daily basis was made by working as a waitress at a restaurant near her college. She never saw her family, only talking to them when she needed to and keeping everything business-like. She sometimes felt that she should leak her father’s secrets anyway, but couldn’t bring herself to do it. He may be corrupt, but he was still family. She achieved great success in college majoring in English. She graduated at the top of her class as well and got a full scholarship to a great law school. Diana was happy that she would no longer need her father’s financial support. She went to law school, which just so happened to be in New York. She was happy to put geographical distance between herself and her parents. Occasionally people would suggest she had a resemblance to the famous senator and his wife, though it was never so pronounced that people truly suspected. The plastic surgery her father had paid for worked its magic. She graduated at the top of her class in law school and quickly got a job at a top law firm in New York City. She took the job and rented a small apartment. Most of her cases are not ones she’s truly passionate about, but she is happy for the ones that are. She has good friends. She occasionally has lovers. Yet the skeletons in her father’s closet still linger. And she wonders regularly if she should let them out.
