☆   Cascadia’s always been a bit different from other sirens. She’s shy, doesn’t believe in eating even the worst of humans. And this probably wouldn’t be a problem if her mother wasn’t the Queen.
Cascadia and her mother have always gotten along but the relationship isn’t simple. It’s complicated. Cascadia is glad to have her sister Ula to confide in, but even Ula can’t understand her fully. So she feels a bit alone.
She’s always been curious about humans, learning bits and pieces about the human world through her heart reading ability. And then one day, after a particularly bad disagreement with her mother, she decides to go to the human world. But not just the human world. She wants to go far away.
It’s a bit selfish, petty, but she doesn’t want her mother or sister to find her right away. She loves them but they don’t fully understand her. No siren does.At least, that’s what she thinks . She wants to find people who do.
So Cascadia swims and she swims and she swims until even her immortal’s stamina is done. She ends up in America, and lays low for a while. She mostly stays near the beach, until some humans find her. A bit surprised, she runs away. But eventually she gets hungry.
So she heads into a restaurant. She doesn’t have any money so she offers to clean the place in exchange for a meal. The owner of the restaurant had just had a waitress quit, and she takes pity on the young woman. She offers her the job and Cascadia accepts.
All she needs is a name. She is about to answer, when she realizes that her name would stand out among humans. And that’s the last thing she wants. So she introduces herself as Christina. Just Christina. A name taken from one of her recent would-be victims. The owner of the restaurant asks her for a last name but Cascadia just shrugs. And the owner does really need the help….
So Christina it is She says, and this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship between the two women.
Cascadia is sure that her sister and mother must be missing her. And she misses them too. But she enjoys the human world. She likes the people, the culture, everything really. She thinks she’ll stay a while.
