☆ Candace Jameson was born into a relatively normal middle class family. Her father was a history teacher and her mother was a journalist. Candace took after her mother, more, though she did share her father’s passion for learning. Her favorite subjects in school were always English, History, and Science. Though a dislike of math kept her from going into anything scientific in her studies, and in her future career. Candace was ambitious, though. She had big dreams.
Once she graduated high school, as valedictorian of her class, she went immediately to college, studying English Literature and Communications with a Minor in Psychology. It is there, at college, that she met James Fitzwilliam. He was a rich kid, business major. He was everything she hated at first, until he wasn’t. He showed her a softer, more romantic side. And she was doomed to love him.
A lot of her friends didn’t like him. Neither did her parents. But she was in love so she didn’t listen. After graduating college and settling into their careers, James proposed. Candace eagerly accepted, much to the chagrin of everyone around her. Once engaged, James suggested Candace take a break from her journalism career to plan their wedding. Stressed out anyway, Candace agreed, much to her parents’ dismay. They hated seeing their ambitious daughter seeming to give up on her dreams.
They get married, and everything is good, for a time. Even Candace’s parents seem to come around. Then one night she hangs out with some friends from college. They go dancing at a nightclub. James makes her promise not to get drunk, a fact she is grateful for later. And her friends are happy to have her as their designated driver/bad decision watcher. So they don’t mind. But it is then that she meets Alicia. Alicia is confident, ambitious, romantic, sensual, everything Candace would want to be. And as time goes on, they talk, and dance, and eventually kiss.
Candace is conflicted, because she doesn’t want to cheat on James, but must admit she has feelings for Alicia too. And so, she is flustered for the rest of the night, a fact her friends point out but she brushes off. When she gets home, a tearful confession happens with James. At first, he’s quiet. Then he yells at her. He asks her how she could do that to him, to them? Candace doesn’t have an answer. At least, not one that satisfies James. She tries her hardest to mend fences, but James from that point on is cold to her. Gone are the days when he would show a softer, more romantic side.
The next day, Candace wakes up and immediately goes to the bathroom, sick. Confused, since she hadn’t drunk a thing the night before, she goes to the doctor. Turns out she’s pregnant. It is then, that she decides to leave James. As she can picture the rest of her life, her child’s life, and it’s not something she would want. So she quietly starts divorce proceedings, hiding from James the fact that she is pregnant. For a while, she stays with her parents, and James tries to get her back but it doesn’t work. She finally heeds all the warnings from years ago, realizing that James is a cold man. That he doesn’t love her the way she loved him. It’s a hard thing to realize, but realize it she must.
The divorce is finally finalized a few months later, and Candace restarts her journalism career. She goes back to using her maiden name of Jameson. James tries to contact her a few times, but she blocks his number. She moves into a small place near her parents’ house, and begins working on a novel. Months later, her child is born, a girl. She names her Isabella Jameson, not wanting her child to have James’ last name. She begins working on a novel, eventually publishing under the name Candy James.
Today, Candace is a bestselling author, who still does some journalistic work on the side. She’s written fiction and nonfiction books, fiction published as Candy James. And nonfiction as Candace Jameson. She’s raising her daughter, who is now following in her grandfather’s footsteps and majoring in History and Education. When Isabella graduates, she is going to be a history teacher. And also write historical fiction on the side.
James is no longer in her life. And Candace is glad. As for Alicia, they never met again. But Candace is glad that she had that experience all those years ago. As without it, she never would’ve had the courage to leave James. And she knows she made the right decision and that she and her daughter are better off for it.
