BIOGRAPHY.

☆  Ashley was born, as fits her personality, on a sunny day in spring. Her parents were overjoyed to have had such a beautiful little baby girl. She looked just like her mother, who was widely known to be a great beauty. Her parents, Jane and Charles Smith, were more than thrilled to welcome the new addition to their family.
They named her Ashley, after Charles’ sister, and absolutely doted on her. There was nothing that this little child wanted that she did not get. And her parents could more than afford it. Charles’s job as a lawyer paid well, as did Jane’s job as a journalist. And luckily for the family, Jane’s bosses did not mind her working extensively from home due to the popularity of her columns. (Human Interest Pieces & Weddings). And when Jane couldn’t stay home, Ashley would stay with a nanny named Rosa who, like her parents, doted on the little girl.
When Ashley was 2, Jane got pregnant again. Charles and Jane were overjoyed, happy to welcome yet another addition to the family. Ashley’s sister Gabriella, who would come to be known as Gabby, after 9 short months of pregnancy. Ashley was so excited to be a big sister and she doted on her sister as much as her parents and Rosa had always doted on her.
As the two sisters grew up, they were inseparable. Despite the differences in their personalities, they got along very well. They had arguments, as all siblings do. But they were always minor things that got solved within a day.
Then the two sisters went to high school. Gabby became more distant from Ashley, more and more so as time went on. Ashley didn’t understand why. She didn’t know what she had done to hurt her sister. And she missed the close relationship that she used to have with her. Furthermore, Gabby became more rebellious. She would regularly sneak out after curfew, leaving Ashley to reluctantly cover for her. This continued once Gabby went to college.
One day, when Gabby snuck out, Ashley followed her. Gabby was angry and tried to get her sister to leave but Ashley proved that she could be just as stubborn as Gabby. And that led to Ashley finding out her sister’s secret. Gabby had been struggling with her sexuality since freshman year of high school, when she had kissed a female friend at a party on a dare…and liked it. Gabby had known for a while that she was gay but had felt that her parents and sister wouldn’t accept her for who she was. Gabby felt it would ruin her parent’s and sister’s image of the perfect American family. end of arc 1
Ashley surprised her sister by being fully accepting. She agreed not to tell their parents but she did tell Gabby to consider telling them herself. And eventually, Gabby did. Their parents were accepting as well, which made both Gabby and Ashley very happy.
Not all of Gabby and Ashley’s extended family accepted Gabby’s sexuality, however. Especially on their mother’s side of the family. The only one who did on that side of the family was their mother’s sister, Mandy, who they found out is gay as well. The revelation that one of her nieces shared her sexuality helped her be more comfortable with her own. So she and Ashley & Gabby’s mother decided to distance themselves from the rest of their family.Now family holidays only include Ashley & Gabby’s father’s side of the family as well as Aunt Mandy and any friends or significant others Ashley & Gabby might want to invite.
Ashley’s world changed when her sister came out. But she’s so glad it happened. Now the two sisters are as close as they were before high school. And Ashley is so happy. She never stopped hoping that she and her sister could rebuild their relationship. And now that they have, she’s so happy.
Ashley is in her junior year of college studying fashion business. She can’t wait to graduate and take the fashion (business) world by storm. She’s also hoping to be able to design on the side as she has a talent for art and design.
Overall, Ashley’s life is good. She wouldn’t change a thing. Ok, well maybe one thing.
Ashley has, since high school, had a reputation for being perfect. One that she doesn’t even want to try to live up to. She isn’t perfect. She’s as human as everyone else. And she just wants everyone to realize that, her family included.
