Raku Technologies ("we", "us") publishes the Read My Books app for Android (the "App"). This policy explains what information the App handles, who receives it, and the choices you have.
Your books stay on your phone. Read My Books has no account and no server of its own, and its built-in voices generate speech on your device. We never receive your books, your notes or your reading activity. Free users see ads from Google AdMob; purchases are processed by Google Play and confirmed through RevenueCat.
Your books. EPUB and PDF files you choose to open, or that the optional book scan finds, are read only on your device. They are never uploaded.
Your reading. Reading positions, bookmarks, highlights and settings are stored only in the App's private storage on your device.
Narration. The App's built-in voices turn text into speech on your phone; no text or audio is sent anywhere. If you choose your phone's own text-to-speech engine instead, the text being read is handled by that engine under its provider's privacy policy.
Personal details. There is no sign-in, so we have no name, email address or password of yours.
Free premium for a day. The time left on a free day earned by watching an ad is tracked only on your device and is never sent to us or to anyone else.
The App uses the following services, each of which collects some information as described in its own policy.
Google AdMob (ads, free version only) To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares with Google (and, through Google, with advertising partners): your IP address, which may be used to estimate your general location; device and advertising identifiers (the Android advertising ID and app set ID); interactions with ads, such as views and taps; and diagnostic information such as app performance. Where permitted and where you agree, this may be used for personalised ads. Google Privacy Policy · How Google uses information from apps that use its services
Google User Messaging Platform (consent) In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google's consent message asks for your choices about ads before personalised ads are shown. In US states with privacy laws it records your choice to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information for advertising. It uses your device and IP address to work out which rules apply to you.
Google Play Billing and RevenueCat (purchases) Premium (monthly, yearly or lifetime) is sold through Google Play, which processes the payment; we never see your card or payment details. To confirm and restore your Premium access, the App uses RevenueCat, Inc. as our service provider. RevenueCat receives your purchase history for the App (product, purchase token, purchase and expiry dates, store country and currency), a random identifier created by the App that is not linked to your name or email, and basic app and device information such as the app and Android versions. So that a purchase can be restored after reinstalling or on a new phone, that random identifier may also be kept in your Google account's encrypted backup (Google Block Store). RevenueCat Privacy Policy
Google ML Kit (on-device language detection) To pick a suitable voice for each book, the App detects the book's language on your device with Google ML Kit; the text itself is not sent anywhere. ML Kit sends Google anonymous usage and performance information (device model, Android and app version, an installation identifier, processing time, error codes and the language codes it identified) to maintain and improve the service. It is not used for advertising.
Internet and network state: To load ads, show the consent message, and confirm or restore purchases
Foreground service (media playback): To keep reading your book aloud when the screen is off or you switch apps
Notifications: To show the playback controls while a book is being read aloud
Read storage (Android 10 and older only): To open the book files you choose on older Android versions
All files access (optional, off until you enable it): For the optional book scan, which finds the EPUB and PDF files on your device and adds them to your library
Billing: To buy Premium through Google Play
Advertising ID: Used by the ads SDK to show and measure ads; you can reset or delete it in your Android settings
You can add books by picking files with the system file picker, or turn on the optional book scan, which the App offers when you first open it and which you can turn on or off at any time in Settings → Library & storage. The scan only looks for EPUB and PDF files, reads only their titles and covers to build your library, and runs on your device; nothing it finds is sent anywhere.
The App contains an optional diagnostic log that is off and cannot be turned on in normal use. It exists so that, when you contact us about a problem, we can ask you to switch it on with a password we give you. When it is on, the App keeps a technical log on your device: app, device and build information, errors, and the Android system log for the App. That log may include book titles and file names; it never contains the text of your books. It is stored only on your device within fixed size limits (older entries are replaced, and system log captures are kept for at most seven days), and it leaves your device only if you share it yourself, as a password-protected file, with the person or app you choose.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share anything ourselves: we have no server that receives it. The services above collect and use information as described in their own policies. Information may be disclosed if required by law.
The App is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country).
Remove ads: buy Premium, or watch a short ad to get free Premium for a day. While Premium is active, the App does not request any ads.
Ad privacy: change your consent or opt-out choices at any time in Settings → Premium → Ad privacy choices (shown where these rules apply).
Advertising ID: reset or delete it in your Android settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your device).
Subscriptions: manage or cancel them in the Google Play Store, or from Settings → Premium → Manage subscription.
Deletion requests: to ask us to delete the purchase record held by RevenueCat, or for any other privacy request, email rakutechnologies@gmail.com with your Google Play order number (it starts with "GPA." and appears in your Google Play receipt). Deleting that record does not cancel a subscription.
Local data: removing a book, clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App deletes what the App stored on your device.
Information sent by the App's service providers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Data on your device stays in the App's private storage until you remove it or uninstall the App. RevenueCat keeps purchase records for as long as they are needed to provide Premium and to meet accounting and legal obligations. Google keeps advertising and diagnostic data according to its own policies. Google and RevenueCat may process data in the United States and other countries, with the safeguards described in their policies.
For users in the EEA and UK, the legal bases are: performance of a contract (purchases), your consent (personalised ads), and our legitimate interest in funding and maintaining a free app (non-personalised ads, ad measurement, fraud prevention and diagnostics).
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the App's release notes.
