1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the ReadingSpace Web browser extension (the “Extension”). The Extension’s primary purpose is to help users highlight, annotate, clip, take quick notes, read aloud, export, and optionally synchronize web reading content with a locally configured Obsidian service.

To provide features that users actively choose to use, the Extension may process the following information on the user’s device:

When a user actively configures a local Obsidian ReadingSpace service or another local connection feature, the Extension may store pairing codes, access tokens, or connection settings locally. This information is used only to establish the local connection selected by the user and is not displayed publicly.

2.5 Local Settings and Diagnostic Information

This may include Extension settings, interface preferences, feature switches, synchronization status, error information, and performance records directly related to Extension functionality. Diagnostic information is used only for troubleshooting and improving stability.

The Extension does not actively request or specifically collect a user’s legal name, home address, government identification number, health information, financial information, or precise location. However, content that a user chooses to select, clip, or save may contain such information, and the Extension processes that content only according to the user’s instructions.
本扩展不会主动要求或专门收集用户的法定姓名、家庭地址、身份证号码、健康信息、财务信息或精确位置。但用户主动选择、剪藏或保存的网页内容中可能包含此类信息,本扩展仅按照用户指令处理该内容。
3. Purposes of Data Use

The Extension uses relevant data only for the following user-facing purposes:

1. Creating, displaying, and restoring highlights and annotations on webpages;

The Extension does not use user data for personalized advertising, remarketing, credit assessment, lending decisions, unrelated profiling, or market research unrelated to the Extension’s single purpose.

4. Data Storage

Highlights, annotations, webpage information, quick notes, Extension settings, and connection settings are generally stored in the browser’s local storage on the user’s device.

When the user actively exports content, exported files are saved to the local download location selected by the user or configured in the browser.

When the user actively enables Obsidian synchronization, read-aloud, or another connection feature, relevant data may be transmitted to a local service address configured by the user. Data synchronized to Obsidian is stored in the user’s own knowledge base and managed by the user.
在用户主动启用 Obsidian 同步、朗读或其他连接功能后,相关数据可能发送到用户自行配置的本地服务地址。同步到 Obsidian 后的数据将保存在用户自己的知识库中,并由用户自行管理。
The Extension does not currently upload users’ reading content, notes, or local connection credentials to cloud servers controlled by the developer.

5. Data Sharing and Transfer

The developer does not sell, rent, or trade user data.

The Extension does not transfer user data to third parties except in the following circumstances:

1. The user actively enables and configures a connection, synchronization, read-aloud, or export feature, and the transfer of necessary data to a user-specified service is required to complete that feature;

2. The transfer is required to comply with applicable law, a court order, or a lawful request from a competent authority;

The developer does not permit personnel to view users’ webpage content, notes, or communications unless the user actively submits specific content for technical support, or access is required by law or for security reasons.

6. Chrome Permission Usage

The Extension may use the following Chrome permissions:

activeTab: Used to identify the current tab when the user actively invokes the Extension and to perform highlighting, annotation, clipping, read-aloud, and note-taking functions.

contextMenus: Used to provide right-click menu entries for saving selected text, creating highlights, adding annotations, or opening ReadingSpace.

scripting: Used to inject packaged content scripts into the current webpage in order to display and restore the user’s reading marks.

storage: Used to store Extension settings, webpage metadata, highlights, annotations, quick notes, and connection settings locally on the user’s device.

unlimitedStorage: Used to store larger page snapshots, long text, image notes, or export drafts that users actively create, so that storage limits do not cause content-saving failures.

tabs: Used to identify and manage ordinary webpage tabs related to the user’s current action and to obtain page titles and URLs required to provide the requested functionality.

downloads: Used to save organized reading content to the user’s local download location when the user actively initiates an export.

Host Permissions: Used to provide core features such as highlighting, annotation, clipping, read-aloud, and restoration of reading marks on ordinary HTTP and HTTPS webpages.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Local data is generally retained on the user’s device until the user deletes it within the Extension, clears Extension data, or removes the Extension.

Users can manage or delete data in the following ways:

1. Delete highlights, annotations, quick notes, or webpage records in ReadingSpace Web;

2. Clear local data or reset settings in the Extension;

3. Remove the Extension from Chrome’s extension management page;

Removing the Extension does not automatically delete files that the user has already exported, and it does not automatically delete content that has already been synchronized to Obsidian or another user-specified service.

8. Data Security

The Extension takes reasonable measures to limit data access and seeks to request only the permissions necessary to provide its current functionality.

External network transmission should use secure connections. When communicating with a local service on the same device, data is used only for local features actively configured and used by the user.

Users should protect local connection tokens, pairing codes, and device access permissions and should not share such credentials publicly.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Extension is not specifically designed for children and does not actively collect children’s personal identification information. If a parent or guardian believes that a child has submitted inappropriate information through the Extension, they may contact the developer through the Product Support section of the ReadingSpace Web listing in the Chrome Web Store.
本扩展并非专门面向儿童设计,也不会主动收集儿童的个人身份信息。如果监护人认为儿童通过本扩展提交了不适当的信息,可通过 Chrome Web Store 的商品支持页面联系开发者。
10. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure

ReadingSpace Web’s use and transfer of user data will comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

The Extension uses relevant data only to provide or improve its disclosed single purpose and user-facing functionality. It does not use user data for personalized advertising, creditworthiness assessment, lending purposes, or purposes unrelated to the Extension’s core functionality.
本扩展仅为实现或改善公开说明的单一用途和用户可见功能而使用相关数据,不会将用户数据用于个性化广告,不会将数据用于信用评估或贷款目的,也不会将数据用于与本扩展核心功能无关的用途。
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when the Extension’s functionality, permissions, or data processing practices change. The updated version will be published on this page and the “Last Updated” date will be revised.

If a change to data processing may materially affect users’ rights, the developer will provide notice through the Extension interface, the store listing, or another appropriate method where reasonably practicable.
