# Privacy Policy for Read Aloud Helper
Last Updated: October 19, 2026
Read Aloud Helper ("the Extension") is a browser extension designed to convert webpage text into speech using local and online synthesis voices. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how data is handled.
1. Data Collection and Usage
Read Aloud Helper does not collect, store, track, share, or sell any personal or identifiable user data.
Webpage Text Content: The Extension accesses text on the active webpage solely when initiated by the user to perform text-to-speech playback. This text is processed ephemeral in-memory or passed directly to the browser's built-in Web Speech / TTS engine (such as Google Online Voices or local system voices) to generate audio. We never log, store, or transmit your browsing history or webpage content to any external developer servers.
User Preferences: Settings such as selected voice type, language, speed, pitch, volume, and highlighting preferences are saved locally on your device using the browser's native storage API (`chrome.storage`).
2. Third-Party Services
When "Online" voices are selected, text-to-speech synthesis is handled directly by your browser's native speech synthesis provider (e.g., Google TTS). No data is routed through or collected by the developer of Read Aloud Helper.
3. Data Sharing and Transfers
We do not sell, trade, or transfer any user data to third parties for advertising, analytics, or any other purpose.
4. Contact
