The Reach Out And Share Foundation is a project looking to use Adopt-A-Family concept to cushion the effect; poverty is having on a households ability to access food. Disability of a family member, in-capacity of a family to earn a decent source of income and current phenomenal number of job losses due to COVID-19 presents us an opportunity to help the many families right to a decent life.
Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa once said and quote "Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life."
Together with individuals, charities, businesses and government we can provide for those who have much less and help make a difference because no act of kindness however small is ever wasted.

Many parents as school start will find it hard to provide quality lunches to their children. Some parents would have more than two children attending school which would make it even more difficult. As Fiji's economy and job security are at a melting point, students in school will struggle with hunger, anxiety and demand to perform well academically.
Students may more regularly go to school hungry. That means they won't be able to perform at their full potential in the classroom because they lack consistent access to affordable, nutritious foods.
Teachers in schools would be the first point of contact to provide feedback on number of students who's families may be facing food insecurity as the first week of school starts after easing of COVID-19 security measures. Information provided by the teachers would surely assist in ascertaining and prioritizing distribution of assistance to the students. One of the ways this can be done is if a parent or parents who can afford give an extra one or two lunch parcels to their children so that students who are facing food insecurity would be able to have access to this basic need.
I would therefore urge parents who's combined or single income would be able to provide an extra one or two food parcels to do so because together we can help alleviate the problem of food insecurity in schools.
