Artist Bio
Sally Chen (any/all) is a queer, second-generation Taishanese American illustrator and poet that loves to make work about connections to people, places, and/or objects through the lens of intimacy, ideas of home, and identity. They’re currently studying for a BFA Illustration and Psychology minor at Parson’s School of Design. They adore pockets of sunshine, jade pendants, herbal jelly, and holding hands.
How Does Your Identity Affect Your Work?
My identity and heritage shapes my art by giving me the frameworks necessary to create things that resonate with and help weave together community. Under-told narratives like ours deserve to be told in all their complexity, with all their unspoken traumas, bursts of joy, and all that lives in between, and since I didn't have much of that growing up, I want to now provide that.
