Artist Bio

Ruiting Jia (she/her/hers) is a current 3rd year at UCLA in Los Angeles, California, studying Psychobiology. She is originally from Laurel, Maryland, where she has had her art showcased in many exhibits and shows. Although not pursuing it as a major in college, Ruiting will always keep art as part of her life and will continue to create it alongside whatever her future career may be.

How Does Your Identity Affect Your Work?

I strive to put context in all of my art pieces - whether it be paint over a subject's face to prompt the viewer to look past the surface of the piece, or distortions to symbolize the dynamic facets of my subject within their identities. My heritage has inspired the art piece that I'm submitting through the underlying background of my Chinese American family and through my identity as a woman.
