Artist Bio

Leanne Su (she/her/hers) is a second-generation Chinese American from Seattle, WA. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in aerospace engineering at the University of Michigan, researching electric propulsion. When she's not breaking or fixing thrusters, she's usually embroidering or taking cursed pictures of her cat.

How Does Your Identity Affect Your Work?

Embroidery in the western world is usually seen as a very feminine and often white-dominated space, even though it has origins all across the world. I like to embroider atypical subjects (memes, crass phrases, Chinese characters, and more) that feel authentic to myself and my experiences.
