Artist Bio

Jonathan Liu (he/him/his) is an average-skilled artist that thinks deeply about the world. He graduated from UC Riverside with a bachelor's in Studio Arts. He constructs in a craft-like fashion partly because of the high value of utilitarianism in the household he was brought up in.

How Does Your Identity Affect Your Work?

I think the part of me that wishes he could be understood in a manner similar to others but cannot because of the way Asian-looking faces are looked upon at face-value in society averted me from pursuing a "visible career" and instead drew me to a medium that does not require one to see the face of the artist. In a way, sadness and deep pain are portrayed, while a sense of gratitude and privilege are also grappled with. I try to convey this feeling in my work.
