Artist Bio

Jennifer Nguyen (she/her/hers) is an illustrator and painter based in Long Beach, though born and grew up in San Diego. She is currently studying for a BFA in Illustration at California State University, Long Beach while minoring in Asian American Studies. Her art often explores the charm in ordinary-looking things, places, and moments.

How Does Your Identity Affect Your Work?

Being born into a traditional Vietnamese household, I definitely felt that my art was always geared toward exploring cultural heritage whether it be my own or others. Not to mention that studying in Asian American Studies taught me the education and awareness about AAPI history that is invisible in the Eurocentric American history within academics. What I hope is for my art to bring more visibility to the daily lives of AAPIs, not just the trauma and hardships.
