How Does Your Identity Affect Your Work?
I proudly identify as an Asian American woman in engineering, and I was inspired to write this piece as an attendee at a virtual STEM poetry slam a few months ago, which was coincidentally the height of the malice toward our AAPI community. I have always loved metaphors and symbolism my entire life, but I have never tried my hand at poetry before, and I was incredibly grateful to have been able to combine my passions for science, figurative language, and AAPI advocacy through this experience. It fills my interdisciplinary heart to be able to share this with you all!
