Artist Bio

Iris Hsu (she/her/hers) is a Taiwanese American dancer and abolitionist with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Northwestern University. Her work explores dance as a means of liberation and joy.

How Does Your Identity Affect Your Work?

Growing up in Taiwan and going to an American school, I struggled with my transnational identity and how I fit into the Asian American diaspora. Dance allowed me to explore and challenge how my body has been colonized. My dance teaching philosophy is rooted in intersectionality and decolonizing the often Euro-centric valuation of dance.
