Artist Bio

April Peng (she/her/hers) is a British Chinese writer currently pursuing a BSc in Physics and Philosophy at King's College London. After graduation, she will be studying MFA Screenwriting at the American Film Institute. April wants to dedicate her career to improving Asian representation in film and TV by writing raw and authentic stories.

How Does Your Identity Affect Your Work?

My Asian identity is inseparable from my identity. For so long I have subconsciously separated it, internalized so much racism and wanted to appeal to whiteness. But now I realize that being Asian is who I am, I cannot tell stories that are true to myself without them being Asian stories, regardless of if it is about race.
