After Mateo’s mother died he was sent to live with his father full time. Mateo tried to get his dad to take in his other two siblings, but his dad made it clear that he had no interest in raising kids that weren’t his. Mateo did his best too see his siblings every chance he got. But Jason took him aside, telling him to stop visiting. Not because he didn’t care but because he knew what Emilio would do if he found out. Mateo agreed, he had little contact with scarlet. But kept contact with Jason through text messages and phone calls.

Mateo found peace in boxing, and when it turned out he could have a career in the sport, his father saw dollar signs. Forcing him to push himself. Eventually it was to much, and the peace he once found in boxing was just another thing his dad ruined. But mateo couldn’t just turn away. He finally got his dad attention, so he kept working at it pushing himself harder and harder until he ended up with shoulder injury that prevented him from fighting the fight that could have changed his life. His father left, never looking back. And Mateo was alone, but not for long. The light of his life, Luna was there. She picked him up while he was down. He might have lost his love for boxing but he found a new love. Luna and their son Trent. Nothing good lasts forever. Luna got sick, and she wasnt getting any better. Even in her last days she was smiling.

It was years since he last held a pair of boxing gloves, but when he heard the old boxing gym he used to go to was closing down, he bought it from the owner. Using it as his own personal gym at first before opening it back up for the public. Though he owns it, it was Jason’s money that bought It. He doesn’t ask questions and Jason’s men have a place they can train peacefully.
