The Effect Knowledge and Color Perception Have on Danger Detection of Plants

Barbara Mello, Alexandra Allen, Matthew Pressler

In order to understand how prior knowledge and color perception affect college students’ decision making, a between-subject design research study was conducted. Each participant viewed photos of plants, some of which had their color manipulated. Half of our participants received prior knowledge about danger signs in plants. The dependent variable was the danger rating given for each plant photo. Statistically significant results indicated that prior knowledge and color perception played a role in participants’ danger ratings.
