If you want spatial audio open ear headphones for side sleepers that deliver deep bass and immersive gaming sound, choose Razer RZ13-01080100-R3M1; if you need crystal clear calls head phones with a natural, musical tone for critical listening, choose Cardas AUDIO A8.
• Razer RZ13-01080100-R3M1: Offers booming bass and isolation in an over-ear design perfect for long gaming sessions, but the bulky form factor makes it unsuitable for sleeping on your side.
• Cardas AUDIO A8: Delivers ultra-linear, natural sound with high sensitivity using premium copper conductors, yet its in-ear bud design offers no noise isolation and zero active cancellation features.
• The Verdict: Pick the Razer if you prioritize heavy bass and comfort for stationary use; pick the Cardas if you demand audiophile-grade clarity and portability without bulk.
The Razer Kraken Forged Edition is built for those who treat their audio setup as a command center. With 40mm neodymium magnet drivers custom-tuned to produce booming bass, clear mids, and crisp highs, this pair of headphones is engineered to handle everything from intense gaming battles to music tracks that require a bit of low-end punch. The acoustic chambers and isolated closed ear cup design work together to create a soundstage that feels full-bodied and immersive. If you are looking for deep bass headphones for side sleepers, you might be tempted by the comfort claims, but I must be honest: the circumaural, over-the-head design simply does not fit the profile of someone trying to rest their head on a pillow while wearing them. The plush leatherette ear cushions are undeniably comfortable for extended periods of sitting, whether you are at a desk or on a couch, but they are too large and rigid to accommodate side sleeping without causing pain or dislodging the device entirely.
Durability is another pillar of this product's identity. The brushed aluminum finish gives it a premium look, and the lightweight, foldable design ensures it won't take up too much space in a bag when you are done. The swappable cable with an in-line microphone adds significant versatility, allowing you to easily convert the unit into a headset for telephony or gaming without needing a separate accessory. However, the trade-off is the sheer size. At 13.44 ounces, these are substantial headphones. They feature an adjustable headband and flexible components, but they are fundamentally designed for upright usage. If you are a heavy sleeper or toss and turn frequently, the pressure points created by the ear cups against your pillow will make this a poor choice for nighttime use. You get excellent sound isolation and a rich frequency response ranging from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, but you sacrifice the ability to wear them while lying down. This product is strictly for the user who sits at a computer, plays console games, or listens to music in a quiet room where they can remain seated or standing.

In stark contrast, the Cardas AUDIO A8 represents the pinnacle of fidelity for listeners who value accuracy over bass impact. As the 30th Anniversary Edition, these in-ear headphones feature a Golden Spiral curved earpiece machined from billet brass, finished in a striking black chrome. The core of their appeal lies in the construction materials: Ultra Pure Cardas Copper with two Golden Ratio scaled Litz conductors. This isn't just marketing fluff; it translates to a motor that is linear to nearly DC, ensuring that phase response remains pristine. George Cardas himself notes that the pole piece has been replaced by a contoured field permanent magnet, resulting in a sound signature that is natural and musical. If you have ever struggled with headphones that muddy up vocals or lack detail, the A8 addresses that directly. The high sensitivity of 110 dB means even modest sources can drive these to impressive levels, revealing nuances in recordings that other headphones might gloss over.
However, the in-ear bud design brings its own set of constraints. These are not designed for crystal clear calls head phones in the traditional sense of having a boom mic or active noise cancellation to block out a noisy office. While the included app allows for some media control and customization, the physical design offers no active noise cancellation and relies entirely on the seal of the earbud. For a side sleeper, the small footprint of the buds is a massive advantage. Unlike the Razer, which would crush your cheekbone, the Cardas A8 sits flush inside the ear canal, making it theoretically possible to wear while sleeping on your side, provided you do not have extreme sensitivity to in-ear devices. The improved cable strain relief and longer continuous connection from plug to driver show attention to real-world durability issues like tangling and breakage. But you must accept that you are trading the "boom" and isolation of an over-ear cup for transparency and portability. This is the tool for the audiophile who wants to hear exactly what was recorded, stripped of artificial enhancement, and who values a compact form factor that disappears into your pocket or ears.
• Best for deep bass and immersion → Razer RZ13-01080100-R3M1. The 40mm drivers and closed-back design provide the low-frequency impact and isolation that the Cardas cannot match.
• Best for natural, accurate sound reproduction → Cardas AUDIO A8. The Linear Driver technology and copper conductors offer a neutral, detailed response preferred by purists.
• Best for long gaming sessions (seated) → Razer RZ13-01080100-R3M1. The plush leatherette and adjustable headband are optimized for hours of stationary use.
• Best for portability and minimalism → Cardas AUDIO A8. The in-ear form factor fits anywhere, and the build quality suggests longevity despite the smaller size.
• Best for side sleeping comfort → Cardas AUDIO A8. The low-profile buds are the only option here that won't dig into your ear or cause pain when lying on your side.
• Best for call quality versatility → Razer RZ13-01080100-R3M1. The swappable cable includes an in-line microphone specifically designed for telephony and gaming chat.
• Best for users who hate cables → Neither. Both products are wired with a 3.5mm jack, requiring a direct connection to your source.
• Best for critical music analysis → Cardas AUDIO A8. The lack of coloration and high sensitivity make it superior for dissecting complex audio tracks.
I would buy the Cardas AUDIO A8 because, in 2026, the market is flooded with headphones promising the world but delivering compromised audio. The Razer Kraken is a solid gaming peripheral, but it is fundamentally a toy for a specific environment: the desk. It fails the primary test for anyone who wants to listen while resting their head. The Cardas A8, however, transcends the typical consumer headphone category. Its commitment to linear phase response and pure copper conductors delivers a listening experience that feels honest and unadulterated. For a side sleeper specifically, the difference is night and day; the Razer is a brick you have to remove before bed, while the Cardas can stay in. If you want spatial audio open ear headphones for side sleepers, you might find the term contradictory here, but the Cardas comes closest to offering a non-intrusive experience that doesn't ruin your sleep or your hearing health. I recommend the Cardas for anyone who prioritizes sound quality and physical comfort over the visual flair and bass boost of the Razer.
Only the Cardas AUDIO A8 is suitable for side sleeping due to its in-ear bud design. The Razer RZ13-01080100-R3M1 features large over-ear cups that will cause discomfort and pressure on your ear when lying down.

Yes, the Razer RZ13-01080100-R3M1 includes a swappable cable with an in-line microphone designed for telephony and gaming communication, unlike the Cardas which lacks a dedicated mic.
