If you want a desk stand that charges your gear, tidies your headset and adds RGB personality to your setup, choose Razer Base Station V2; if you need a cheap way to turn a Nintendo Switch into a VR viewer for the handful of games that support it, choose Orzly VR Headset Designed. These two products share almost nothing except the word "headset" in their names — one is a piece of desk furniture for PC gamers, the other is a plastic viewer shell for a console. If you landed here searching "game headset" gear, the honest answer is that only one of these is really headset-related hardware in the traditional sense, and it is not the one you might expect.
• Razer Base Station V2 — biggest strength: it does three jobs at once. It holds your headset on a tall anti-slip ledge, feeds it audio through a 3.5mm jack wired to a built-in 7.1 surround sound DAC, and gives you two USB 3.1 charging ports for your mouse, phone or controller.
• Razer Base Station V2 — biggest trade-off: it is a desk accessory, not a headset. If you wanted something to wear on your head, this is not it, and it only makes sense if you already own a PC headset worth parking.
• Orzly VR Headset Designed — biggest strength: it converts a Nintendo Switch or Switch OLED into a VR viewer with adjustable lenses, a focus dial and three-way adjustable straps, all in a black gift-boxed shell.
• Orzly VR Headset Designed — biggest trade-off: it only works with Switch consoles and only with games that support VR or Toy-Con VR Goggles mode. It is not a PC VR headset and it will not plug into your gaming rig.
• Who each is for: the Razer stand is for a PC gamer with a headset and cable clutter; the Orzly viewer is for a Switch owner curious about VR on a budget.
Think of the Base Station V2 as the parking spot your headset never had. The stand rises to roughly 11 inches, which is deliberately taller than the original V2's predecessor design, and Razer built it from anodized aluminum with a rubber finish so larger over-ear headsets hang without the cups scraping your desk. The base is a 4.72-inch disc with a high-friction rubber underside and a low center of gravity, so when you drop a headset onto the ledge it stays put instead of tipping.
Who should buy it: PC gamers who own a wired headset, hate cable spaghetti, and want their desk to look intentional. The detachable base also helps if you move between setups — the stand separates for transport, which is more than most desk accessories bother to offer. Who should skip it: anyone without a headset to hang, anyone on a laptop-only setup with no need for extra USB ports, and anyone shopping for something to actually wear. In my opinion this is a desk-organisation purchase first and a gaming purchase second, and it only earns its place if your headset currently lives in a tangled pile.
Orzly VR Headset Designed: Who It's For
The Orzly viewer is a very different animal. It is a black plastic shell designed in London specifically for the Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED, and its whole purpose is to seat the console in front of your eyes. You open the latches, drop the Switch in, remove the Joy-Con controllers, clip everything shut, then slip the headset on. Minimal cutouts keep the charging port, power button, volume buttons and air vents accessible while the console is mounted, which matters because you do not want to unmount the whole thing just to nudge the volume.
The optics are the interesting part. Orzly fits extra-large crystal-clear lenses and a focus dial, so you can adjust the image to your own eyesight rather than accepting whatever the factory set. Three-way adjustable head straps mean kids and adults can both get a secure fit, and Orzly states the headset is recommended for ages 8 and up with adult supervision. The cushions are soft and breathable for longer sessions, and the field of view is listed at 110 degrees. The resolution ceiling is the Switch's own 1920x1080 at 60Hz on an LCD panel, so image sharpness is capped by the console, not the shell.
Side-by-Side: Which Should You Choose?
• Best for tidying a PC desk → Razer Base Station V2. The anti-slip ledge, rubber base and tall aluminum column exist purely to get a headset off your desk surface.
• Best for adding ports → Razer Base Station V2. Two USB 3.1 charging ports plus a 3.5mm jack with a 7.1 surround sound DAC is genuinely useful hardware, not decoration.
• Best for desk aesthetics → Razer Base Station V2. Chroma RGB with 16.8 million colors and multiple effects, in a Quartz Pink anodized aluminum finish.
• Best for portability between setups → Razer Base Station V2. The detachable base lets the stand break down for transport, and at 460g it is easy to move.
• Best for trying VR on a budget → Orzly VR Headset Designed. It is the only one of the two that actually puts a screen in front of your eyes.
• Best for families and younger players → Orzly VR Headset Designed. Adjustable straps, a focus dial and an 8+ age recommendation with adult supervision.
• Best for Switch owners specifically → Orzly VR Headset Designed. It is built for the Switch and Switch OLED only, with cutouts for the charging port, buttons and vents.
• Best for PC gamers who already own a headset → Razer Base Station V2. If you have a wired headset and a cluttered desk, this solves a real daily annoyance.
One thing worth flagging: neither of these is a "gaming headset" in the sense most shoppers mean. If you searched for a headset to wear while playing, the Razer stand supports one but does not include one, and the Orzly viewer replaces your screen rather than your audio. Know which problem you are solving before you buy.
My Verdict
what is best gaming headset
There is no single best gaming headset, and neither product here is actually a headset you wear for audio — the Razer Base Station V2 is a stand that holds and connects one, and the Orzly VR Headset Designed is a Switch VR viewer. If you want audio, look at headsets directly; if you want to organise the one you own, the Razer stand is the relevant pick.
how to buy a gaming headset
Start with what you play on. PC players should prioritise comfort, a wired connection and surround processing — which is exactly what the Razer stand's 3.5mm jack and 7.1 surround sound DAC are built to feed. Switch players wanting VR should instead look at the Orzly viewer, which is console-specific and requires VR-supported games.
how to test gaming headset
For a stand like the Razer Base Station V2, test stability first: hang your heaviest headset and check the rubber base and low center of gravity hold it without tipping, then confirm the USB 3.1 ports and 3.5mm jack pass audio and charge properly. For the Orzly viewer, seat the Switch, adjust the focus dial until the image is sharp, then tighten the three-way straps and check it does not slip.
what is gaming headset
Strictly speaking, a gaming headset is a pair of headphones with a microphone built for games. Neither item on this page is one. The Razer Base Station V2 is a headset stand with charging ports and an audio jack; the Orzly VR Headset Designed is a virtual reality viewer for the Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED.
