Spalding's runners in cross country have also earned two ODAC Runner of the Year awards, five ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, three ODAC Rookie of the Year laurels, 31 all-region accolades, 33 All-ODAC citations and one runner has earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He's also had five individuals qualify for the NCAA Championship and one team advance to the NCAA Meet.

W&L secured its fifth straight ODAC Championship in 2019, while having a program-best seven runners nab all-conference citations. The title run marks the first time in program history the team has won five straight conference championships. W&L went on to take third at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championship, with five runners garnering all-region honors, and Spalding was named the ODAC Coach of the Year.

In 2018, the Generals won their fourth straight ODAC championship, which included six runners earning All-ODAC accolades. W&L went on to take fourth a the NCAA South/Southeast Regional. Spalding was again named the ODAC Coach of the Year at the end of the season.

Spalding led the Blue and White to its third straight ODAC title in cross country in 2017, and the team went on to take fourth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional. At the conclusion of the season, he earned his third straight ODAC Coach of the Year accolade. The Generals had five runners named All-ODAC, which at the time marked the most for the program since 2007, and the team had three individual qualify for the NCAA National Championship.

Instead of the usual home-and-away games, the eight teams in the BCL will play each other once. The 50th annual BCL tournament, typically culminating in a local college arena, will be played at the higher seeds, with the quarterfinals March 22, the semifinals March 24 and the championship game March 26.

Following back-to-back narrow losses to open the 2020 season, Iowa won six straight games, all in Big Ten play, to complete the regular season. Iowa completed the 2018 season with a 9-4 mark and a final ranking of 25th in the Associated Press. The Hawkeyes earned a 27-22 Outback Bowl win over No. 18 Mississippi State to close the season with three straight wins. The four losses came by a total of 23 points, and all were decided in the final minutes of play. Iowa tied for second in the Big Ten West Division.

In 2017, the Owls broke the college wins record for a second straight year. Spalding said she hopes the owls can continue to ride the wave of record-setting seasons, which includes a 2017 Western State Conference Finals appearance.

I've always loved science. When I was ten or eleven, I would read science articles and tell them to my family. I've always loved that feeling of learning something new about the universe and then sharing it with others, and I thought that meant that I wanted to be a scientist. I went through undergrad and grad school, got a Ph.D., did scientific research for ten years straight on astrophysics, mostly. Because of the heavy involvement of an AAU coach and a high school coach, there was the appearance of impropriety, although no NCAA recruiting violations were discovered.[11] The NCAA adopted a new scheduling rule after UConn paid $25,000 to schedule a game against the Beltway Ballers, an ad hoc AAU team that consisted of Gay's former teammates.[12] Although it violated no standing rule at the time,[13] media observers and Connecticut staff considered it directly connected to the recruitment.[14] According to individuals close to Maryland head coach Gary Williams, the recruitment demonstrated that rule-bending is often necessary to secure highly touted players, which Williams said he was unwilling to do, even at the expense of recruiting.[11]

James F. Spalding was born in Michigan on July 28, 1835. In 1860 he graduated from the classical department of the University of Michigan, and received a Masters of Arts degree in 1863. Spalding migrated to Kansas City, joining his father in the founding of the business college. According to published accounts of the day, Spalding founded the first school in Kansas City, two years before the first public school was opened. The first classroom was located in a small building at Second and Main streets. Seven students comprised the graduating class that year.

Through the years, a number of local businessmen attended the college, including Harry S. Truman. Truman enrolled shortly after graduating from high school in 1901, taking a typing class in the summer and bookkeeping and shorthand classes in the fall. After the fall semester, he quit school to help his father with his business ventures.

LC became the first USA South school to win three straight conference tournament titles.
