Writing for pleasure is something we would encourage every pupil to do. Early years children often write stories or create lands of make believe but soon, they fall out of this habit. We want to encourage our young people to continue their writing journeys and learn to love creating through the art of language.
There are lots of resources that can help children with this. Here are just a few:
Pobble365: This free website gives pupils one challenge a day based on a short, creative piece. It allows pupils to practice their inference and identification skills whilst giving them the opportunity to write imaginatively and creatively. You can also view the online repository of past Pobble tasks which we have collated for you by clicking here.
Storyjumper: On this website, your child can create their own short novels in a comic book or picturebook style. It is free to use but there is an option (paid) to download your child's creations as PDFs or even have them printed into books and sent to you! This encourages and supports the use of creative writing devices, plot and character development and sequencing.
The Cambridge Write and Improve Digital Workbooks: This is an excellent website, differentiated by levels from 'beginner' to 'Professiona;', that allows pupils to practice writing in a range of forms. There are loads of fun activities for pupils to complete and
Pen friends: There are lots of places online where you can meet like-minded people who want to continue the traditions of pen friend writing. This is a brilliant way to encourage your child to write letters which will imporve their non-fiction skills as well as help them to practice with using tone for effect.
